Can Soul Gems be found in Skylanders Giants for S1 Skylanders
If not, is there any other way of getting them without buying the game

There is no way to gain the soul gems of any s1 figures using solely the second game. However, the s1 characters do not require soul gems in the second game. You can buy their soul gem ability right from the start

I thought that once you had unlocked a soul gem you had to buy it from Persephone.
+ its for Camo, his Soul Gem enables him to heal after he shoots a fireball

dont blame me for double-posting, but you can buy the soul gem for S1 Skylanders on Skylanders Giants?

Well, you don't buy the actual soul gem, but the Soul Gem Ability can be bought at any time on Giants. So like, if you put a brand new S2 Zook on the portal, you can immediately buy his Soul Gem. (well, I mean, after you get the mortar upgrade) But yeah- you can get the ability at any time just as if you were buying a regular upgrade.

Now, new Skylanders and Giants, THOSE you have to find in the game. 16 levels, and a Soul Gem for each character (the 8 giants and 8 regular characters) on each level. Those are the only ones you need to actually go and find.

You can do that too, only the new ones and Giants require their soul gems to be found in the levels
