This is a heads up for parents, as well as an idea for kids.

The Skylanders can be scanned in without taking them out of the package, and depending on how they are wrapped, they can be scanned in without removing wrapping paper.
Additionally, as pointed out by my 7 year old brother, you can put the portal next to a sideways Skylander and it can be scanned in.

It is entirely possible for kids to check and see which skylanders are under the christmas tree without even touching them.

You parents need to hide your presents better. Do not be afraid to hole them up in a tree in your backyard.

No, but on a completely serious note, if you have like, a larger box- place the Skylander in there with something else on the bottom so they can't scan it in. Or again, hide it really good. Or you know, quite honestly that'd be a cool way for kids to see what Skylander they're getting for Christmas. On Christmas morning, give them the Skylanders last and tell them to put the box on the portal. It's like, a mystery Skylander.

I already knew you could scan them through wrapping paper, but can they still scan through a really heavyweight cardboard box? (I have the gift box sets from costco if anyone else has experience from those?) My kids don't have giants yet, but im worried the series 2 figs will give away the surprise!

My little boys still belive in Santa. Should gifts be under the tree already or Xmas night. One is obsessed with skylanders and the other angry birds. I just ordered Mighty Eagle and this plush toy is huuuge. Oh I can't wait to see each ones reaction.

How about you guys don't meddle and wait until Christmas like everyone else. I wouldn't even think of doing that.

I'm sure there are kids, on this forum, that believe in Santa and to suggest otherwise just not right. Santa brought Skylanders to my house last year and Dad had to pick up the slack in Jan/Feb.
