Is it that if you type a bad word it automatically turns it into stars and you don't break the rules?

As long as the curse word is not readable, you are not breaking the rules.

The censor system works automatically, yes, but you should still avoid swearing.

Swearing is still against the rules, see. Even if you censor the words you use it's still not completely okay, and may lead to you getting your messages moderated.
