Terrafin's kinda a one trick pony and you want to make sure that trick is the best it can possibly be so Sandhog is your best option. We do have a Sticky Topic for this if you have any more questions.

^ Sandhog is WAY better, you stay invincible while underground, move faster, and deal damage just by burrowing, you don't even have to belly flop.

You stay invincible underground in brawler too, knuckles are increased damage, and mini shark eat enemies that attack you. They do 8 damage

^ Yeah, but you do damage while underground in Sandhog, knuckles are useless on either path, and 8 damage is not very much for mini-sharks, I made the mistake of choosing Brawler once, it sucks.

We're all in agreement that Terrafin needs Earth Swim to survive.

The key difference here is that Brawler Terrafin HAS to come out to do any damage.

Sandhog can stay safe in the ground and harass with his fin and homing Mini Sharks and then come out for the huge belly flop when he gets the chance.

Brawler is reliant on finishing the battle as quickly as possible before he can take too much damage. Sandhog controls the battle.

Brawler, by a longshot. You should totally take Brawler, it's much better.

1. Sandhog makes him too much of a one-trick pony. His Earthswim is pretty helpful on that path, but don't expect much from his other moves. besides The bellyflop, all his other moves do weak damage. He can hardly do anything if he comes out to the surface, Brawler actually lets him do something with his fists and he can hold his ground while on the surface.

2. Although he's still invincible underground, the Razorfin only does 15 damage and the mini sharks still do petty little damage. So it's not so helpful. Brawler makes his attacks stronger (minus the Frenzy Shield, but still a bit helpful). The Razorfin is kind of cool, but kind of useless. Unless you're plowing through groups of smaller and weaker enemies, it's not really much of a solid upgrade

3 (Most important number of all!). On Sandhog he is real fast but hard to control on that path. Kind of like a smilie Wrecking Ball or smilie issue with the Forcefield Ball and Wave Rider. It is HUGE problem for PvP; it's difficult to chase your opponent around walls, obstacles, inclines, and platforms. You could accidently swim off an incline and come out to the surface and give yourself up, leaving you open to attack. Plus with the difficulty to navigate the Earthswim, it's hard to hit your opponents (and enemies in Story Mode) with the Razorfin. So it's kind of useless. On Brawler he is not as fast, but still much easier to control. In PvP, the arena where I found heavy use for Sandhog was the Slime Pipe, since there are no platforms and hardly any obstacles.

I originally had Sandhog, but I reset my smilie because it was hard to control, his attacks are weak, and most important: Not saying Sandhog is bad, but it was just so boring just swimming into people all the time. It wasn't as enjoyable as Brawler, so I had to escape from bordem prison by resetting him. Brawler is more fun and stronger.

brawler is better. dmg is the thing he most lacks, and the belly flops and punches do the most of it.just belly flop, then punch the heck out of anything, doing the AAX combo (xbox) you will do tons of dmg.

But look at it this way.

15 Damage while completely invincible.

vs.

However much his fists do while completely open and exposed.

What needs to be discussed is his survivability on Brawler because what happens when he ends up going against a character than can out-melee or play keep away? He'll never be able to approach.

Sandhog is the best path overall due to increased versatility defensively and offensively. But choose what fits your playstyle more, they're both great paths with pros and cons.
