Well... Glumby01 has just listed some more prototypes that he received from the same Chinese seller as before. Although the clear Stealth Elf isn't anything new...

Have a look at the Chill. Does that look like "orange" lips? Nice crystal hand too!

I bought it from http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?id=19325732364
He's cut up now :u I'm going to articulate him this week if I'm not too busy again hopefully. The lack of the green bottom is the only notable difference.
Or did you want pictures of the base bottom? I can get some of those later but the rest of him won't be there :3

I don't know but most of the "prototypes" listing on EBay (this time and last time) merely look like incomplete run items, possibly run tests, rather than actual prototypes?

For the purposes of this thread, I would like to request that the definition of a Skylander Prototype be:
a one of a kind figure that was molded and painted by Toys for Bob (Activision), but NOT released to the media or for retail.

Two examples that would NOT be Prototypes based upon this definition are:
1.) 2011 E3's, such as Trigger Happy/Gill Grunt/Spyro in the original packaging
2.) Custom figures that were either articulated or painted

Yeah, I hear what you're saying about the term "prototype." I don't claim to be an expert on prototypes, but am trying to learn as I collect Skylanders. There are probably better terms and expressions that I could use, but "prototype" becomes the catch all phrase I suppose.

As a result of my inexperience, I definitely look to people like Glumby01 for advice. He's been doing this for some time. He has a reputuation in the GI Joe toy community. He expressed to me his "reputation" is something he openly appreciates and works hard to protect. While some of his listings wouldn't fit this threads exact definition of one of a kind items, things like the clear stumpy and slam bam i believe qualify. Things like the unpainted Sidekicks and such while perhaps not prototypes, are still things that I as a collector have yet to see in little over a year.
They remind me of some of the unpainted production figures in this picture:

Given your wide ranging collection t7gga, I figured some of these would interest you. smilie

I've got more pics to share regarding some of these that have yet to be seen, just want to present them with their factory release figures side by side for immediate comparison.

Not the best pic in the world, but here's another pretty cool prototype of Prism Break. I remember when Cynder was the first of the clear crystal ice variants to be posted online, many speculated that a clear PB would be one of the others released. Well as we now know, that didn't happen, but Activision certainly tinkered with concepts such as this one! I think it's VERY COOL!

The FSS eyes' are painted the same as a regular SS, leading me to believe that it's a regular SS underneath. When I look at a FSS, I can see the white backing of the flocked material especially around the cutout of it's eyes. The mouth cutout is so small, I can't really determine anything.

Who wants to confirm this by performing stumpy skin surgery??? smilie

I don't always see all of the threads that have prototype information in them. I noticed this video of a hacker, hacking SG and introducing the prototype character of "Sniper" or "Buckshot" not sure which at the 2:28 mark? WARNING: And... yes... it also shows Thumpback in game in the beginning of the video. At any rate, if anyone finds prototype stuff like this, I'd appreciate you posting it in this thread for others to discover. Thanks!

Between the 1st and 2nd lots of "prototypes" that were sold by Glumby01, the same buyer won all but 2 auctions... The Slam Bam and Whisper Elf protos.

If the winner of the majority of the auctions is a member of this forum, would love to hear from you. I think it's important to try and archive who has what and get people's reviews and opinions of those who actually own them.

- We know that Okaps and Kung Fu Man each have a Crystal Clear Stumpy proto, along with the winner of the initial auction.
- I will reveal that I won the Slam Bam auction, but no others. In addition, I have a complete set of Sidekick protos, the Crystal Clear Prism Break pictured above, and a Series 2 Terrafin proto.
- Kung Fu Man also has at least 2 of the Sidekick protos.

What am I missing?

My review of Crystal Clear Ice Prism Break

Photo Gallery: http://s1271.beta.photobucket....149676484936835

Background: It came from the same Chinese seller on Taobao as the other recent auctions did. The seller had another clear PB but the mold on that one obviously didn't set correctly and the figure appears warped especially compared next to the one I purchased. http://i1271.photobucket.com/a...gejpeg_2_16.jpg

Apperance: Similar to what was reported with the Crystal Clear Stump Smashes, this clear PB has a yellowish hue to it. It really depends upon the lighting as you can see in the pictures I've included. The detail on this clear PB is dead on with the detail from a factory PB. The only slight variances that I see are the crystal prisms on the clear PB. The prisms in his hands are just slightly offset to either direction when compared with the factory PB. This, however, seems to be fairly common even when comparing factory PB's to one another. The prisms on the clear PB's shoulders appear different in the pictures, however, after careful comparison, they are quite similar.

Hardware: As has been the case with most prototypes, there is no RFID chip within the base, therefore, it doesn't work in game. The green base on the bottom is the same as the factory comparison, except that the clear PB's base has a lighter shade of green color to it. The embossed Model # is 84180888 and is the same on both figures.

Summary: After careful comparison, I believe this to be an authentic prototype. The level of detail is just so amazingly similar to a factory PB. I am really happy to have it in my collection!

My Review of Sidekick Unpainted Factory Samples from Activision

Photo Gallery http://s1271.beta.photobucket....180001009687864

Background: These also came from the same Chinese seller on Taobao as the other recent auctions did. Several of these were sold to various people via Taobao and eBay.

Appearance: These appear to me to be unpainted samples from the Chinese Activision factory. The detail and colored plastic is an exact match when compared to the Frito Lay promotional Sidekicks. The bases are fairly similar to the factory Sidekicks, except for the Terra Bite and Trigger Snappy bases. These were the lone Sidekick bases painted prior to the assembly process.

Hardware: As has been the case lately, there are no RFID chips within the bases, therefore, they don't work in game.

Summary: I find it pretty interesting to better understand how these and other Skylanders are being assembled. It would appear based upon the figures that have shown up recently, that the majority of figures are molded with colored plastic to start (and not painted), then painted, and then assembled. I'm sure there are other steps involved, but you get the gist. Although these things do next to nothing in the game, they do have a certain charm to them. I wish I had an extra set of samples, I'd probably try and customize them...

Nice! I'm sure it looks great on the portal!

I attempted to do the exact same thing on my SB, but the base is quite warped and broken in a spot, so putting on a newer base isn't quite meshing together. Unfortunately, i think I'll leave it as is for now.. I don't want to break the base the figure stands upon. I'm so tempted to mod my clear PB, but that base is in tact and i didn't want to damage what came to me in perfect condition.

Well... my fellow Prototype enthusiasts (and naysayers) smilie

I have just received written confirmation, that the Clear Ice Stump Smash(s),Clear Ice Prism Break(s), and Slam Bam figures are indeed AUTHENTIC Activision Prototypes!!! This was confirmed by a TFB employee who works within the QA department. He was able to confirm this by contacting his counterpart(s) at the Activision factory in China. He mentioned that the 2 clear Ice prototypes were in fact created to decide which would be the final three clear variants. In addition, the Slam Bam was initially proposed with the white plastic, until the final production decided upon the translucent blue plastic. He was also quick to point out that these are NOT TFB prototypes, but rather ACTIVISION prototypes.

This is fantastic news for those of us who were able to get our hands on these! Congratulations to all who did! These may quite possibly be the rarest Skylanders ever found in a personal collection.

Note: Out of respect for the TFB employee and to honor his wishes, I will neither forward the written confirmation, nor announce his name or position.

This is what the TFB rep said about the Sidekicks in his message to me;

Quote:
I asked about the unpainted Sidekicks as well and those look like unpainted factory toys. My personal guess is non-Activision guess is they were probably smuggled out of the factories some late night by some worker and sold. But I don't know for sure.

It's just a plain Stumpy. You can kind of see this in the unflocked back of his mouth, and definitely under the fur. Have had a one-year-old chew on our opened one, so there can be no mistaking it. He's not painted aside from the eyes though.
