Im holding all Skylanders Giants stuff till Christmas for my 3 kids. I have everything that was released so far except LC and the S2 reposes. Im thinking that since we are 37/37 for SA plus Legandaries and B Bash and R drill that im not dumping another $250-300 to double up. I havent been sneaky and played the Giants while the kids are sleeping to try it out but to all of you already playing, what are your thoughts?

The only S2 reposes I have are Cynder and Chop-Chop and that's only because they came with my starter editions. I have no intentions of buying the S2 figures at the moment, but I haven't played the game much and haven't played at all with S2 Cynder or Chop-Chop, so I can't say how much better the S2 characters are.

I heard something about the S1 characters not unlocking heroic challenges in Giants though, so that could seriously suck if that's true. That would mean that all the rest of your Giants figures wouldn't be able to do the heroic challenges of all the S1 figures you have and would be a serious "eff you" from Activision to its loyalest of fans. Can someone clarify this?

Only orange based figures unlock challenges. Several of tem have new challenges that are different from S:SA. The challenges for the missing 8 and those that have been replaced by new challenges are available for purchase by Auric. However, it would appear at this point that certain challenges are only available by purchasing an S2 figure like ignitor or Trigger Happy. The new challenges given to S2's like Cynder and Zook are likely only unlockable from this specific figure s well.

This is the biggest middle finger to the consumer I have ever seen. Screw you, Activision, or Toys for Bob, or whoever the hell made this decision. What other game requires you to spend $400+ to fully complete the game?

I might just give them the middle finger right back and "buy" all of the new figures, "own" them in the game through the packaging, and return them to the store. In fact, this is almost certainly what I will do. What a bunch of jackwagons.

We just need one more to start a movement! Seriously, though, I'm already shelling out $325 for the game, new giants, new regular figs, and the legendaries (not including the 3DS game, which my son WILL want). Why would they expect me to spend another $336 for the S2 re-poses (including lightcores) to get the full benefits of the gameplay?

This is a serious question: does anyone know of another game that does this sort of thing? I'm not a gamer, so I don't know. I know that WarCraft keeps coming out with new stuff, but does it reach the level of Skylanders?

I absolutely refuse to get the S2 or at least I won't buy them for my kids. Now, if they want to spend their money to get them, that's on them. It is definitely a money grab, but I've decided what I will and won't purchase.

Only some S2. Like your favorites or ones you think poses are cool. Or maybe one who's Wow Pow you like.

I already have 3 of the S2 Reposed characters (Chop Chop, Slam Bam, Trigger Happy)- I do plan to get a good bit of them...possible all of them but I'm not 100% sure though :/

But the idea that you can't get 100% in the game unless you buy them..is a bit messed up D: I can see why so many would be a bit PO'ed.

Only S1 figures i own are the exclusives, so i be getting all S2 Figures....

I kinda feel like they might for Skylanders 3 just bring S1 exclusives figures and bring like 20-30 ;3 new characters that be cool ;3

But for Lightcore i be only getting the versions of the new figures. and maybe Prism Break he looks awesome ;3

so basically we will need at least 1 s2 character per element? am I making sense? I have S2 L-pac, Chill, Sprocket, Flashwing, jetvac, Pop fizz (and punch pop fizz), fright rider and all giants avail. so do i have to buy the reposes too? So its the individual heroic challenges that are a problem not the element challenges.

You "need" lightcores as much as you need legendaries. That is to say, you don't need them at all. Lightcores are basically series 1 figures that light up, don't matter for collection purposes, and don't unlock any unique content.

That saves you $96 right there.

Ok so whoever is the SG master fill all us silly parents in on the repose value. I'm starting to think somebody at BOB and Activision is really gonna be bending me over.

To get a save file to read 100% all you need is one character from all 8 elements, but at least one of them needs to be a giant. Since Tree Rex comes with te game itself this should not be a problem. For this purpose it does not matter if an S1, S2, giant, newbie, or LC as long as one of each element.

The advantages of te S2 is that they are built so you don't need to permanantly choose a path. They are the only figures that can switch paths without resetting stats to zero. They also all have one extra character specific move called a WowPow. No figure that is not a S2 has these two benefits. Plus it has already been discussed the issue with the heroic challenges. We have 2 of the S2 open and out right now and there may be a few more tucked away for the holiday.

Additionally they are better quality figures has anyone studied te backs of characters like JetVac and Ignitor?. There will likely be far less issues with easy broken parts like Hex and Chop Chop last year. Wr have also been told the chips in these figures are more forward compatable than the S:SA figures.

There are advantages to upgrading but it does seem a ripoff.

Does someone have a link to confirm the forward compatibility of the S2 figures?

Well, I bit the bullet and bought every wave 1 "series 2" figure. Now I just need to register all of them in my game and return them, still sealed. Activision can go screw themselves.

There is absolutely no technical reason why series 1 figures cannot have the same features as series 2. The software could easily handle swapping the data in the RFID chip to support changing upgrade paths. Extra xml elements such as "wow pow" are handled gracefully by the previous game. The heroic challenge thing is just blatant mockery.

I'd love to hear an engineer at the company explain how it is possible that series 2 figures could be more "forward compatible". The data stored in the RFID tags is plain text (in xml format) and has virtually no space requirement. XML is inherently designed to be completely "forward compatible" and safely handle all future additions.

Overall, they're pretty much worthless. They mainly exist just to keep the old characters in stores in some form. If you're a parent, I don't recommend buying your kids any series 2 characters.

I almost bought the series 2 figures today at TRU since they are still buy 1 get 1 40% off. I refrained though, & am glad I did. The only ones I have are Cynder due to the starter pack, Chop Chop due to the 3 pack, & Bash. I bought Bash because he is my favorite character & the paint job looks so much better on him than the one from SSA.

Yeah, I think its rather a money dump by them to release them like this. With that being said, i am a part of the original 37 club and told my son we will NOT be getting all the new series 2, but i will be getting a few of our favorites.... mine=drobot, not LC but series 2 and his will be terrafin. Those are the two we battle with the most so we have to get those... I did get cynder and chop chop of course because it forced you to. Havent even used them in game yet.... too many new guys to level up and get powers for.... We do however have all the "new" characters that have been release with the exception of the LC and legendaries....

I can see why those of you that bought every figure from the first game would skip 'em, but man am I happy I get a chance to grab a Terrafin, Zook, Ignitor and Stumpsmash since I missed them the first time. An extra upgrade is just icing on the cake.

I don't think the developer truly intended or expected most people to buy the entire first set. People buying the reposes are likely buying figures they missed the first time around.

That's a rather bold statement. I feel you are either not familiar with Activision (or most of the gaming industry for that matter) or have too much faith in corporations not being in it for the money and instead having your enjoyment and fulfilment in mind.

Of course they expected people to buy the entire set. If they didn't then why are there accolades in the game for having the entire set? I know they don't count toward the % completion but people will still want to see that criteria filled in their save.

Activison: October 21st: Screw you. Dump those pieces of trash in the garbage can and actually buy some Skylanders, you loser.

Activision: WE DON'T CARE ABOUT YOUR SERIES 1 CRAP, GO BUY MORE.

That, kids, is why you should always wait for the newest Skylanders before you buy them all.
