So, I was checking out GITD Cynder, by placing her on the portal, and my 360 copy of the game registered her. It now shows I have 76 Skylanders, and Special Cynder is right next to Series 2 Cynder.

Now, it makes me wonder what happens if you put the variants from the first game on?

But why does Special Cynder show up when you put her GITD version on?

Now I am starting to wonder how this whole 99 Skylander thing plays out, because she just took up a spot that should have gone to the following -

37 SSA figures
16 New Figures (new Skylanders and Giants)
24 Series 2
8 Lightcore
6 Legendaries
Punch Pop Fizz
Royal Double Trouble
Scarlet Ninjini
Granite Crusher
Jade Flashwing
Molten Hot Dog
Polar Whirlwind
Gnarly Tree Rex

But now, Special Cynder has taken one of those spots.

Tried all three convention variants and they weren't different registers. They were still Series 1 Hex, Series 1 Hex, Series 1 Cynder and Series 1 Spyro.
If you're talking about new variants of old characters, however, some people with the Rock ones have already confirmed they are Special.

All I know of is that GITD Cynder and Fright Rider are Special.

I have no clue about any others (but I would assume Gold Flameslinger, and Rock Zook and Whirlwind would also be Special)

But if they keep taking up the spots of the characters I listed above, and the counter stops at 99, collections are going to look funky.

GITD Cynder didn't take up a spot on the 3DS version.

My Rock Zook, doesn't show up as special, but my GITD Cynder does. I have the Wii console.

Yeah, I'm major OCD - I have them all, every one of them, and most of the easy to find variants. My favorite is Quick Draw Rattle Shake!

I can confirm that GITD Sonic Boom also scans as special S2 sonic Boom and I have heard the same thing said about GITD Fright Rider it appears there may be code in the game for them to make special editions of all in game characters.

I would consider that 99 to still be a valid number of actual in game variations as all the specials appear to be considered S2 (or regualr figures in Fright Rider's case) with the move sets and appearnance normally given to those characters.

I think there is a false premise here - there is no proof that the counter stops at 99 is there?

Let's get back to first principles... ...and correct me if I am wrong here.

The 3DS version states that there are 99 slots but does it count chase variants as Specials and include them in that count?

The console versions count figs, including chase variants as Specials but that is merely a count so far with no indication of the possible maximum.

Excellent point. I guess you need to take ownership of the variants on the 3DS version to truly verify that 99 number. See if it changes on that version of the game.

the 3DS version DOES NOT consider GITD Cynder and GITD Fright Rider as seperate chars.
in the collection they dont show.
(edit: they do recognize it as special and as different char, unlike SSA 3DS where it whined about already a char of this type, one would replace the other)
dunno bout lightcores.

they show up as special to try and stop those scumbags that were faking the s1 gitd variants and selling them on ebay as real

i think if you had 100 spyros, they would show up as 100 different spyros.

My guess would be that it would go past 99. AS in Skystones where my wife and I were playing she went past 100 moves on a puzzle. It went right on by 99 and to 100.
