Chapter 1

Cynder watched silently as the sun rose over the green grassy hills on the horizon. She loved the sunrise on a cool morning. She looked down at her purple companion, still snoozing in the wet grass. Three years have passed since they had defeated Malefor, but the pair was inseparable. Cynder loved Spyro with every fiber of her being and he returned the same love. They traveled together ever since that fateful day.

This day was an important day. This day, Cynder would finally meet the dragon she had been writing to for the past year. The dragon claimed he was her half-brother! As they exchanged letters, Cynder discovered that he too was a slave of Malefor's. His name was Nyghtmare, appropriately named considering his dark humor. They agreed to meet this day at the annual Sunny Flight wing race competition. Nyghtmare would be competing, and Cynder was going to cheer him on.

Spyro began to stir. Cynder smiled at him before gently nudging him awake. It was time to go. They were going to.be late. The hero groaned before lifting his head.
"Morning, beautiful." he said, smiling.

"Always the charmer." Cynder said with a wink. "Ready to go?"
"We haven't even had breakfast yet." Spyro yawned.
"We can eat when we get there. We still have a lot of ground to cover."
Spyro groaned. It would be hours before they got to the competition. He sighed as they took wing. Maybe he could get her to stop on the way...

Chapter 2

The small coastal event was bustling with dragons of all ages and colors. Cynder wrapped her tail tightly around Spyro's. It was easy to get lost in a crowd so large. Spyro scanned the crowd before coming to a realization.
"Do you even know what he looks like?"
Cynder froze. She didn't know. Come to think of it, Nyghtmare never mentioned his appearance. It would take hours to ask every dragon his name. Luckily, they only needed to wait a fraction of that time.

A dragon collided with Cynder hard, knocking both of them into the grass. They scrambled up, both dazed.
"I'm sorry ma'am. I wasn't paying attention. Trying to find someone here is a nightmare." the dragon apologized.
He was jet black with red wing membranes. His sparkling ruby eyes matched the large twelve painted on his flank.
"I'm Nyghtmare. What's your name?"
