What exactly is the Battle Pack for? [CLOSED]

Does the Battle Pack open online multi-player mode or is it just a new fancy name for DLC Adventure Packs? I have the 3DS version and wonder if I should purchase this?

Nope.
It's literally just an item that follows and attacks with you on the 3DS game. Ala Sparx Dragonfly or Ghost Swords.

Different maps. The normal one is an ice map, the gold I don't know yet.

Eh? They do unlock their PvP arenas. The ones that Auric sells are the default PvP arenas from the first game.
