So I guess it's no wonder that Skystones is instantly my favorite part of Giants. I actually have to applaud Activision for this one. It's a lasting, fun diversion that may well outlast the main campaign in overall fun/time spent for many players. Does anyone else remember Triple Triad? This is the last place I expected that game to turn up again, but I'm glad it did.

I think they also had a version in FF9 too

reminded me more of tetra master from 9 and 11

IMO it's more like a cross between Tetra Master and Eye of judgement

cause at the time it was squaresofts last game if it failed then they would have went bankrupt so the game was dubbed Final Fantasy to signify it as Squares "Last" effort. I wouldnt say 13 main games in 25 years is alot.

the game is based on old games played in other countries. There's even an old episode of Recess with a similar game, they call it "Ajimbo" and have pictures of Giraffes and such.

This is what the collectable card game could've been.

Ifenough people like skystones then I would bet that Activision would releaseit as a standalone card game. Probably with the release of Skylanders 3.

Personally I want it to come out with collectable cards you can register into the game and use physically.

That is a very good idea.

From a gaming perspective, it is completely obvious that they borrowed from Final Fantasy. I know the card game was probably around in some capacity before FF8, but it was FF8 that introduced in-game card minigames to the gaming vernacular, and the rules are nearly identical. The only difference is that, in FF8, power rankings went from 1-A (A representing 10), and as far as I can tell, the most powerful Skystones card has five arrows. So, they took a little of the complexity and strategy out, but aside from that, it's the same game.

It isn't the only thing that is borrowed from Final Fantasy...

lol skystones is a nice fun addition to this game, and i loved that show recess hahaha

i mentioned this a few months ago in the first game's forum.

the NPCs kept talking about Skystones through the first few chapters and i thought MAYBE it would be a version of Triple Triad. i was absolutely delighted when i got my first challenge (Chapter 4 i believe).
