Portal of Power and Wii USB HDD issues [CLOSED]

I have just bought the Skylanders Giants game for the Wii and have backed up the game from disc to the USB HDD. I always do this so the kids can choose from the inventory of games...saves the discs being beaten to death with their constant desire to go from game to game. Unfortunately this is the first time I have encountered another USB requirement - the Portal of Power!

The Portal lights up when I load the game from the USB HDD, but as soon as the game shows up on screen (Skylanders home page), the portal loses activity and is not recognised by the Wii? Has anyone else experienced this problem? I have tried swapping between the 2 USBs on the back of the Wii, but the USB HDD needs to be in the USB port nearest the edge of the Wii, so no luck there.

Any suggestions appreciated.

Skylanders section. Sorry, I didn't even know you could put Wii games onto a USB.
