You can play as Giants characters if you have the new Portal... Will ask to install a new version- do so and you can then enjoy! smilie
As proof, I'm wandering as Fright Rider on Ambrosia right now.

The several registerable Skylanders when all added to your account allow you to get three new Skyland expansions bonus.
