What happened to the gems and Moneybags [CLOSED]

Whats happened to the gems and moneybags. I mean they were there when Insomniac created the game + you needed them to complete the games. But now Sierra has wiped out the need for gems (except in spyro: enter the dragonfly, but moneybags only appears once). Why have the gems lost their money value in completing levels.
