So I did the math and... [CLOSED]

Assuming all 100 figures plus the 22 confirmed figural variants, the variants take up roughly 18.03% of all the figures. Now I know it doesn't sound so bad but- this is almost ONE FIFTH of current figures. Consider there are going to, almost certainly, be more coming, I think I personally can conclude this is way too many.
And this math was assuming the following: on the regular figures' side were the original 50 figures and the new 50 figures, and on the variants' side were the three Silver figures, four Gold figures, Pearl Hex, Metallic Cynder, Blue Bash, Flocked Stump, the three Ice, the four Glow, Granite Crusher (since he isn't confirmed to be a different character, just have a different skin) and Mold Rex(same as Granite).
I feel like I may have missed out on the Legendary figures in these calculations, but honestly, to me, anything above 10% is a ludicrous amount since most never, ever see them anyway. With the almost certain possibility of more coming, this really makes me kind of sad, actually. smilie

This is why i am glad i do not feel a "need" to get all variants, just what i can when i can.

It's like I've been saying, the variants are dumb. At least the ones in Giants probably look different in-game, so at least there's a BIT of an incentive to buy them, but they're still completely pointless and stupid. Though if there's a Sprocket variant, I confess I'll probably try and get it. >__> *brick house falls on head*

Although I am sure that Toys for Bob/Activision were aware of what could become of the collection side of Skylanders, their intention was not to make some toys really hard to find to annoy collector's and break people's banks. They can't please everyone and so they could only release a few variants.

As some people have said they don't do anything in-game so don't really serve a purpose; however the collector in us all wants those figurines.

Those of us without infinite disposable income choose the figures that we want and ignore the others. For example I have all of the original 37 plus blue Bash and red Drill Sergeant, which I actually imported from America because they never released red DS over here. But that's it. No sidekicks, silver, gold, clear, GiTD or special game show variants for me.

However were I raking in the cash I probably would buy them all.

I've heard many people from TFB say that the variants are "Treasure Hunts" and designed for children to find, but like that's going to happen.

I have only Blue Bash and Red Drill Sergeant, and I myself am perfectly happy. Of course if I'm in a store that sells Skylanders, I always check for variants, but other then that, I'm not too obsessed.

Im only bothered with the 'Landers that are different in-game (or the ones that are registered as a different Skylander in the 3DS Version)

From my standpoint- they fully intended to have rare variations of characters even in SSA for the "collectors" and those that would hunt them down. I don't believe they ever realized Skylanders would blow up like it did and in turn created prime Scalper bait.

I really like variants. I collect a lot of different action figure lines and variants are really cool, especially to a collector like myself.

HOPEFULLY they've taken note of how crazy the figures go (not only from people who work at the stores not even putting them on the floor) and they'll be putting multiples of the variants into boxes, or at least more of them. But also hopefully, not as many as they have now with Blue Bash and L-Triggs
