Just out of curiosity i decided to check on ebay to see if anyone has actually bought any of the over priced figures. And sure enough, in the "completed listings" i found this..

I know, but because some one went ahead and bought a figure for $70 that mean's more people will buy and re sell doesnt it?

Of course it does. Supply and demand. The same thing happened with the Disney Designer Dolls last year. I was trying to get a set for my niece and couldn't because they were turning up on eBay for five times the price.
