MUCH better character selection than the first game. [CLOSED]

I feel that Skylanders Giants is really handling the character selection a lot better this time, and will probably be the best it ever gets. There were simply too many characters to choose from in the first game, and since you only needed 8 characters to get everything in the game, you were left with a lot of optional characters that even if you did buy a second of the same element, there was nothing too important about it. This time around there's ONE set of regular characters, and ONE set of Giants, and that makes the whole thing feel a lot more streamlined to me. It not only cuts the character roster in half to a much more reasonable number of 16 characters, but it also makes buying a second character of the same element much more appealing since the Giants are different than the regular characters. It also makes each of the new characters feel like they're main characters, because there's only ONE regular character, and ONE Giant for each element. Nobody else fits the role, and that makes me much more accepting of all of them unlike the first game where you had four characters fighting for the role of "main character" in each element.

Assuming you're just collecting the new characters, Skylanders Giants is actually a LOT more consumer friendly this time around. Sure there's the greed factor of Series 2 characters, but just looking at the new characters, it's much more manageable, and a lot more appealing to get the whole set.

Let's also not forget that the selection of new regular Skylanders are all fantastic this time around. I was skeptical about a few of them at first, but having seen more gameplay of them, I've learned to like all of them quite a lot. Even Hot Dog, Fright Rider and Flashwing who I really didn't like at first look so much better now that I've seen them in-game. The Giants don't look quite as fun, but they make up for it by having really awesome figures that I'll want to buy just to have on the shelf.

What do you think? Do you like the smaller, more streamlined selection of characters? Or would you have liked it better if there were more of them and had the freedom to pick the ones you liked the most?

I do agree with the reduced amount of characters. It makes it less overwhelming to purchase. Still, after a while the characters are gonna start getting worse and worse due to lack of ideas.

I agree with you. I'm actually quite glad they made the first game before this, as it made an excellent foundation for the 16 new characters. If the first set weren't in, it would feel a little lacking, but overall, I think Giants is much more impressive with EVERYTHING, really.
