And this is involving something nobody ever seems to talk about- QUESTS.

Yes, QUESTS. The tasks each Skylander can finish(I.E. Kill 1000 Chompies). We don't know if they give us any reward so far, and they have been rarely talked over.

My theory is that these reskins are unlocked by finishing Quests. And that you can equip them after finishing certain Quests. You can see Skylanders without any upgrades wearing these skins... Which would be possible that way.

I mean, think about it... The Quests are PROBABLY gonna give us some reward for finishing them. And we know nothing about neither the variants nor the Quests. I think that's what they're here for.

If your theory is correct, I won't have to use my actual money to get the variants!

So cool! But Activision won't let that happen because they absolutely HAVE to make as much money as possible.

i was about to post something similar to this on the ninjini fan club topic.

Maybe through something in the game we are able to unlock different skins for each character, Quests would be the best way to do that id say.

Just found that after reading another topic about varients (decided to keep all my posts in one place) it states that the Elder Elementals *who wer GIANTS* could possess light or dark within their flesh.

surely if its only in their flesh it probably wont effect stats/powers etc. and only skins.

The variants could reflect on the Giants' light and dark powers.

YES. This is a fantastic theory that I agree with and support.
These quests are the aspect that I am anticipating the second most, second only to the arena matches. It would be awesome if these are the actual reward for them.

...This theory pleases me very much. It makes perfect sense, in game skins that reflect both like and dark versions of the characters. I guess we'll have to wait until the game comes out to see if it's true.
