Worried about availability- for other reasons [CLOSED]

When I first got the original game, I had to go to three different stores to find all the figures.

That was fine, because the game wasn't a big thing. But with Giants I expect a lot of kids to get up and stay home to get everything.

I'm really worried because my Skylander-selling stores are quite far apart (two stores five minutes away, one ten minutes away, and everything else is at least half an hour away) and I doubt even if I visited all of them that I would be able to collect everything(I plan to collect every single pack).

Should I visit TRU and the far Targets first, or the close areas first?

I forgot to mention, the thing is, the father ones tend to have better stock...

I really want to go to TRU, but it's sooo far away.

I think I might wake up really early and just go to whatever is open first, if they all open same time, I'll go to TRU first, to pick whatever Legendaries they get (and they will lol) and then proceed home.

I'm feeling the same way. My TRU is quite a distance, but at the same time, my Gamestaton is pretty tiny. I'm crossing my fingers that there won't be too much demand, as where I am, there has never been a queue to buy a videogame before. In fact, the only time there were people waiting outside the store in the morning was when they had the Manaphy Egg promo.

I'm tempted to say TRU if they have exclusives you really want, though.

It looks like we are speculating on a massive first day release.

If this happens feasibility of cost is going to keep a lot of people from emptying the shelves. The monetarily deprived are going to have to make choices if they want to or not. ALl the retailaers are going to be filling the shelves because of last year. I also suspect the high volume of new figures will scare off a majority of scalpers worrying about their end investment. The toys will become scarce again but probably not until Black Friday when Christmas buying habits kick in and retailers start getting lax on orders because the shelves have been filled for over a month.

The only caveat to this is some scalpers may focus in on the giants themselves making them harder to find but initial reorders from smart buyers would cut this issue down to.

Most stores give you at least 30 days to return purchases. Scalpers might be maxing out their credit cards on the chance to make some cash. Hopefully, the stores will be so full that it won't matter.

This is what I expect. Just getting two or three of everything is going to max credit cards opver a $1000. This is going to scare non-organized scalpers away and the landscape will be pretty well saturated. I have 4 Wal-Mart's , 2 Target's, 1 TRU, 1 Best Buy, 4 Gamestops plus all their assorted internet sites and Amazon that I can all hit within a 3 hour window and I expect all of the big American six to be well-stocked on day one. Their may be a half dozen or so figures that will be snatched up quickly but their will be plenty of new mmerchandise on the shelves for a few days.I also think it likely TRU will implement one or two specific character per customer limits.

I was the manager on duty in a Wal-Mart a couple years ago when a customer returned over 600 bakugans. I could have had the service desk stalwart him and make hime return them one by one making sure reciepts matched but it was mid-November and we could'nt keep them on the shelves so we went with it. It was pretty epic.

I'm more worried that because most people only want the new characters, stores will be stuck with shelves full of series 2 figures and not restock as often. There would be more stock, but less chances to refill on the ones people actually want. I know our Wal-Mart hasn't restocked in about 2 months since nobody has been buying the characters they have on the shelf.

The first game wasn't even popular in my country, so I'm not worried about not finding Giants or any other Skylanders in stock.

Originally there were indicators to show that the new figures and series 2 would be distributed in separate case packs this would solve that problem. However I am starting to see signs that this is either not the case or activision has changed their minds meaning series 2 will rot on shelves. I suspect many of those on this site will get more reposes than they intend to when they discover that WowPows and chaning paths has validity to the game.

I think they will make more but still wont be able to keep up with the demand. I just hope they keep up with the demand of the brand new characters instead of the reposes. I want the reposes but not as bad as the new characters.

And due to all of this scalper talk, it's no wonder why I have friends in almost all stores I go to, who hold for me - a true Skylander fan - so scalpers can't go and make things go wrong.

I have friends who are willing to let me go through the boxes days in advance, pull what I need, and then go grab them on day 1. It helps me curb the greedy geek scalpers who value money over anything else, because that's all they can fill their lives with (ie making up for other things), in check in my neck of the woods.

I think the initial wave will be VERY well stocked, the fun begins for wave 2. Retailer launch exclusives should be very well stocked as well.

However if they learned their lessons from last year, the later waves will be pushed out in huge numbers so scalpers will only be able to turn a profit if they can score as a new wave hits and some people cannot wait and are willing to pay the jacked up prices. So hopefully the greater supply this time around will make it not as attractive for scalpers.

I doubt they keep the stores stocked of each new wave. They have to create demand to keep people looking. They will probably say they didn't anticipate the demand being even bigger this year, so another shortage happened. God bless fabricated news. smilie

I got to say I agree with this 100% with the caveat that the stock for wave 1 on launch day will be mind blowing. However each additional wave with the possible exception of wave 2 will not have anywhere near the supply to match the demand. The shelves will be beyond bare after Christmas again.

Exactly, and people will keep falling for it, when those who are interviewed about the next game state they won't run into shortages again.

They need to ship each wave in boxes of 12, not 6, in my opinion.

Honestlty GM, just upping the shipping case quantities wont work. All the big six US companies are automated odering systems now anyway so all this would do is inevitably half the orders. The only way to fix this is to ship mostly relevant characters. Activision knows who the top figures will be in each wave (at least has a good guess) but repeatedly dumps less popular characters in boxes that get stuck on the shelf and slow down reordering. TRU cant justify buying more of wave X to stock up on WhamShell when there are 32 Zaps sitting on the shelf.

The key is to ship relevent figures and it can be done.

edit: as far as the quantiy issues go its an activision issue: Last January the company was only sending out about half the supply that was being ordered claimimg that they did not have enough RFID chips to meet ordering demand. Higher case quantities would not have solved this issue either.
