Because the pictures I saw had a meadow. It looked like the game began there. How did they end up there?

Maybe that meadow can be a backdrop but they didn't necessarily had to start there. Even at that, the Chronicler said that the world would change but to the point that the Mountain of Malefor becomes the Spyro world equivalent to Exbury Gardens. o.O
