So I was stuck on a 5 hour flight home and decided to do a repaint of Eruptor in the style I plan to repaint him. I'm currently in the process of repainting my entire collection to give away. I'll be posting photos of all my repaints here to share with this community as this is where I got into repainting. But lets start with my digital repaint of Eruptor.

Artwork is done with the Procreate app on iPad. Pretty straight forward desaturated original photo, then painted with Bamboo stylus on a secondary layer. Smudge Tool, Round Paint Brush and Pencil brush.

it's all good. I got a lot accomplished not being here, but I did have a few people here that I needed to share info with that I couldn't because of the being gnorked. It is what it is. I'm back and I have a lot of cool stuff to share with the group that isn't involved in my other group. I'll try to keep it dedicated to this thread. This thread however likely will get moved as I see they made some changes to where things go in here.

Sky Landers and me are one and the same, yes. If someone wants to steal my work...then that's pretty sad...but flattering I suppose. But it's all in fun anyways.

eruptor the water minion.... paint him like that and take one of the water stand from the water elements... then open it change chip and glue it all together... that would be awesome...

I just got back from a vacation, and am settling in, but I have a lot of figures to paint at this point. But it's exciting to see what he'd kinda look like in that color....thanks Kappa! Hoping to have him painted similarly in about 5-10 days. Stay tuned!

That shouldn't be a problem getting a hold of a Gillgrunt to do do so...about 80 cents now...lol.

What do you charge to paint one?

I typically charge the cost to ship it back to you...you ship the figure or if I pick it up for you, then it's the cost of the figure plus the shipping cost which is typically 3 dollars in a soft mailer. I have a log right now of about 15...which I hope to finish this week (doing a set of glow in the darks, silvers, golds, purple metallic cynder and then 5 other my own idea versions for members of a trading group). After that I am doing a repaint of my entire collection and taking a few others as time permits. I have till the release of Giants to finish my 37 repaints. So that gives me plenty of time to do them and take requests. I don't charge for my work. I do it for fun and to improve my skills and build my portfolio up. Never know where your work can take ya. Who were you thinking of getting painted?

PM me if you want them done. My turnaround time is about 7 days as life dictates things a bit for me...I only get 2-3 hours a day to paint at this point. But weekends I can pump em out as I do my thing. Payment is via paypal.

Welcome back =D! Nice job on all of your customs, you inspire me to try to make some of my own. Your Gill Grunt and Sonic Boom figures are my favorite. If you don't mind me asking, how did you re-box the figures like you did with Wham Shell? I tried using a blow dryer and it still ripped the print on the cardboard backing even when using a steady heat and a X-Acto knife. Thanks =)!

What paints do you use?

To answer all the questions. I use the cheap metallic acrylic paints sold at Michaels. The flat colors are just the cheap tube acrylics you can buy in a set for about 6-8 bucks. I hand mix most colors to get the exact colors I want.

My favorite is Sonic Boom. I was going for a griffin look on him with the gold color, and I wanted to incorporate the green metallic paint I got into it. I don't have an exact backstory for them, but I just envisioned Sonic to look more that way than what they did. I have to paint another one of him for someone and I'll be doing a blue/gold version. So we'll see how that turns out.

As for the packages, don't do anything special. Just open it from the top and try to get it so when it opens that you get as little paper as possible...you know how when you tear it wrong and you have to poke through the paper...and it ruins the packaging altogether? Don't do that. Open from the top down and leave the bottom attached. When you reattach it, just use regular cheapo super glue. Tack a dot at the top, but check alignment and then glue it. Just slowly put a thin layer of glue around the edges to seal it up and align as perfect as you can. Press edges firmly as it goes so the glue seal the layers tightly. Viola, done. If you had remnants of paper come off...super glue those back where they came off. You don't notice it as the figure and packaging will hide a most flaws. I tried the hot dryer method...it warps the packaging.

I am not sure the acrylic brand of paint I use. I've mentioned it before in other thread, but I know Fred Meyer (WA) carries it. Do Not Use enamel. I guess that there is also Testors acrylics which are really good. But lastly, seal your figures after you paint them with a matte Krylon finish spray. 2 coats makes it pretty durable to touching and abuse without looking all glossy.

Here is a version of Flameslinger. The person I painted it for requested a purple/blue theme. So that's the reason behind the color scheme.

I actually appreciate those icons...those take some serious fussing to do I bet. I don't have that sort of patience. That Eruptor took quite a deal of time to produce and I'm sure all the icons he makes do too. I think there is a true artist in nintendo92's work. Even if it looks 8-bit...it's still got artistic flair! Link me to all your icons...I'd like to see the full versions of em. I can do most any style, but I prefer to work in my own style and prefer sculpting, real painting and photography over digital. But I am slowly getting more into the digital side.

I think the market is pretty dead for customs on ebay unless you are Jin. But I need to make a name for myself and I have to start somewhere with it. I never want it to be a fulltime gig, but I want to eventually convert it into something similar to what Jin does. I just don't think my wife will go for me having piles of toys in the house...but maybe I can convert my garage into a workshop...and I do work at a full fledged machine shop...so I have options to advance it if I want. Maybe I'll do a set few for ebay for humor sake.

The thing is, my house lighting isn't super bright so it's hard to capture the color on this one. When finished it'll look much better. I did the base silver, yes. It was sort of a cop out. Painting the base a more realistic cloud color is a pain...painting the figure without removal is a bit tedious, but I thought it was appropriate for this one. You can't see it in the wing, but I've done a black wash/wipe on the other wing that gives it a more shaded look, then came back with silver again to add the highlights. Also, the black on her fades from black to blue. The blue is a metallic blue, so it has that sheen to it. As you can see, the silver is fairly brilliant. I need to re-dot her eyes too for the highlights as well. She'll be done today and I'll post a final pic. Then it's on to Wrecking ball.

I saw someone did a custom of Zook that was painted like the Joker. It was actually pretty well done and was on Ebay for 10 bucks for the current bid. Also had a custom Warnado with RPG launchers on his back. The rest of the customs were downright pathetic. Anything for a quick buck I guess.

^ Oh, I see the wash on the forehead and wings; it adds a nice touch. I washed my dark Whirlwind that i'm making, but I don't like how it turned out.

wow I saw the eruptor post on facebook but thought it was just a recolor, not an actual drawing! that's awesome!
I also really love the sonic boom custom, it makes me think of the seahawks.

lol...you should see my boomer that I was working on (never finished...lol but will) He is the Seahawks colors. Seeing as we are Seattle-ites..

Three views of my take on Whirlwind. I have been enjoying doing the Winged ones more than others. Time to work on a wrecking ball! Whatever will I do...too many ideas in my head.
