why spyro? [CLOSED]

okay, this might be a weird question, but why name the head character Spyro?
and how did they come up with the name Spyro?
it seems like all of the other dragons in this game have REAL names unlike the made-up name: Spyro.

Maybe because his name relates to fire since he's a Dragon. You know, S-pyro, with Pyro meaning fire...

Spyro comes from the combination of two words.

pyro - fire (pyromaniac, pyrotechnics, etc)

spira - to breath (respiration, etc)

His name literally means "fire breather". There you go.

Spyro is a real name... Its short for Spyridon and means Spirit... But Im guessing thats not the real reason why smilie... It could have just been a mixture between Pyro and Spirit...
