Giants on Wii U. [CLOSED]

Just got a call from my local Gamestop, who informed me they are now taking reserves on the Giants Starter Packs. I asked her if it was on Wii U, and she said they have a SKU for Wii U, so I could reserve it as well.

It's not on the website... yet. However, I have little reason to believe it was a mistake. It would be crazy for Activision/Toys for Bob to NOT put Giants on the Wii U.

^likely because it's on a new console. Also it is pre-order and that tends to cost more.

Amazon.com is showing the starter kit for $75 and the portal owner pack for $60. They are listing them for PS3/Xbox360/3DS/Wii/Wii U. I'm not sure how official it is though.

Gamestop.com has all Wii U games listed at $100, I would hopefully assume these are just temporary, or that would mean a very swift death of the Wii U.

I would hope that it does come with a portal. While the wii u does have nfc to put objects in the game, the skylanders figures are constantly updated on the portal meaning that they have to stay on the portal. By using the wii gamepad you are unable to use the controller while playing.

When I went to my local EB Games (Canada's Gamestop), they let me preorder my starter pack for the Wii, but they didn't have it on Wii U. They also let me preorder 6 characters.

The 100 dollar price tags on Gamestop are just placeholder prices. They do that, incase the pricing isn't set yet.

They didn't have a variety to choose from. All the computer said was that Giant Single Packs and Lightforce Skylander Single Packs were available to preorder, so I ordered three of each. They were 14.99 each, and I payed 59.99 for the expansion pack.

Go back to that gamestop, giants' final price is 14,99$,but lightforce characters are supposed to cost 11.99$

I know that. Don't worry, I only had to pay a $5 deposit for each preordered item. So when they come out, I'll have the pay full price. I'm sure they'll have all the prices sorted out by then.

Giant's on the Wii U..Awesome, But how would you play it? I mean, would you use the regular Wii Remote, or the Wii U controller and it could display the game on the Wii U controller?

It would probably be using the a Wii controller and nun chuck. That is, if the Wii U remote was used as the Portal (which it could be)

The Wii U controller cannot be used as a Portal, it doesn't have the sensors on it. And you can use the Portal from the first game too smilie

I wouldn't have said it unless I knew it was true - if it wasn't true you could look it up and find I was lying.

Okay, fine. But why not just use the Portal From the First game? What I meant by using the Wii U controller to display the game is to use the Screen on the controller and it would act like a TV, I mean, that's kinda the purpose of the Wii U controller.

From what we understand about the Wii U is that it runs on different wave signals than the Wii. It will use IR signals like the 3DS does. I would expect the Wii U to need a new portal.

Huh? the Wii U may need a portal and I would want a portal anyway because who wants to set the characters on the controller?

but there is no reason to think that the Wii U Skylanders portal would use IR like the 3DS, that would not function right, swapping characters on the fly would be a nightmare. The Wii U version will use RFID like the other console versions.

and I'm confused about what you are saying. If you are talking about the console then the Wii system uses bluetooth and RF, the Wii U system uses bluetooth and RF. The only difference in signals is that the Wii U controlpad includes an RFID sensor that may (or may not) work with the skylanders.
ItsJustMe Yellow Sparx Gems: 1273
#27 Posted: 20:33:22 08/06/2012
What we have seen from the Wii U controllers is that it is a continuous IR stream unlike the one the 3DS uses for the portal but like the one the 3DS uses to scan for other 3DS signals and the internet. A portal connection with the Wii U would have to be continuous for the game to be fun. Otherwise it just becomes expensive DLC.

Edit: I am looking for the source I had that it was designed to run on tech more compatible with 3DS signals. I can not find it and you seem to know what you are saying so I happily back down from this arguement. I would still not be surprised if the original Wii U is not backwards compatible with the original portals (at least wirelessly).

There are two different kinds of starter people who don't have the portal of power and people who do the owners pay 15 dollars less or something like that.
