Dino-Rang
Eruptor
Drill Sarge

For a whopping 49,500 Rewards Points, you too can own one of these rare variants.
And you also get a free head examination.

Actually though, that's kind of interesting. I'm guessing they only have one of each as the Eruptor specifically mentions that the package is damaged. Thoughts on this?

It either means they are opening all of the cases to find them, or they can get cases of the figures from official channels, which means that other retailers should be able to do the same. Not worth the prices they're reaching from fleabay!

I'd totally get one if they were offering one of the clear variants. I haven't spent a single reward point since the program started and have accumulated plenty of points. The painted ones though...eh...they're not so special in my opinion and at 49,500...overpriced, I'll pass.

I'm pretty positive they are opening the cases to find them. Whenever our GameStop gets shipments the Skylanders are just kind of tossed in secondary box...so it looks like they've already been gone through

This leads me to believe they are going through the boxes and getting these :/ I've not spend a single point since i joined but I still wouldn't pay that much in those for something like that.

If it is the case, Activision are failing badly and the shops involved and scalpers alike are both scamming the public!

None of the gold and silver would reach joe public through normal channels.

Variants are the handshake between Activision and their Skylanders retailers, a thank you, if you will, for dealing with hundreds of phone calls a day about skylanders. Most retailers have just enough knowledge about Skylanders to know that these are not your average figure, therefore most variants never even see vendor shelves. They get squirreled away in some random store department to make some lucky employee a mini-bonus once they can get off the clock and go buy it themselves. At least, that's how I see it.

I hope I'm doing my math right.

49,500 Rewards Points / 20 rewards points for each used dollar purchase = $2,475
49,500 Rewards Points / 10 rewards points for each new dollar purchase = $4,950

...and for further clarification 50,000 points gets you a $50 off coupon for a purchase of anything at GameStop, so by that logic, one of these figures is the equivalent retail price of $49.50

I have to say though, and like I mentioned- there's only one of these they're putting up for rewards. If they had more than one, the Eruptor for example wouldn't mention that the figure had a bent blister.

So, they must just have a few of them from a box or something. Like the signed Mortal Kombat guide- it seems they only have one of them.

I've got 2,520 points.
1800 from the Black OOT Zelda 3DS
100 from the $4.99 Spyro I picked up
120 from the 2 $2.99 figures.

So yeah, about every $1 you spend is around 100 points.

Outrageous that a retailer would scoop these out of the boxes... here's to inserting random scratch off prizes inside skylander figure boxes. That would move the old ones too...

I believe Gamestop also gives you points for TRADING games, but honestly that tends to be a bigger financial loss than paying scalper's prices on eBay. smilie

Only have about 20,000 points myself - most of which are from trades when they're having their +50% specials. Combining that with trading in several 3DS games from Best Buy's $5 holiday special got me a net profit of +$13 per game, which is the closest anyone can ever say they've come to ripping GAMESTOP off for a change.

(Of course, they probably turned right around and sold those games for $34.99 each, so it's not like you can ever really "win" against Gamestop. Heh.)

I do work there. So the discount helps, but I've been buying video games from gamestop a long time. Also my friends and family use copies of my card since they don't care about the points anyway.

I had close to 300K at some point but I've since spent them on random things that pop in. Still don't think I'm going to bite for the Gold/Silver skylanders.

It's probably why I have not seen any come into any Gamestop store. Corporate hoards them all :/
