Plot Teaser

After Kaos' defeat, the Skylanders have not had much to do around the ruins that they now call home. So when Hugo finds an ancient scroll foretelling of a legendary spirit somewhere across Skylands, the plot begins to rise once more.

Prologue

The sun was shining over the ruins, illuminating fields of grass, an ocean with a steep waterfall drop-off, and the figures of Skylanders playing around. Kaos had been banished, and so had the fun of staying around the ruins all day and night. Flynn was leaning against a hot air balloon, admiring his reflection in a handheld mirror. Cali was sitting outside her tent, waiting for something remotely entertaining to happen. And Hugo was pacing around, studying a tattered, yellowed old scroll that he had found in a rocky crevice.

"Spirit in the farthest north... Obstacles and terror blocking the path..." Hugo muttered, squinting at the scroll. "How is this supposed to make any sense? A deadly - SHEEP!"

A white ball of fluff barreled into Hugo, knocking him flat on his back. Hugo flailed about wildly, screaming, "Get off of me, you fluffy menace!"

Spyro charged up, flaming the sheep. It turned tail and ran, its wool slowly burning to ashes as it bounded away from Spyro.

"You okay?" Spyro asked. He looked as restless as all the other Skylanders. He must have been chasing sheep in the hope of barbecuing one for a small feast.

Hugo stood up, brushing dust, blades of grass, and scraps of wool off of his sweater. "Yeah," he said. "Just trying to figure out this scroll. I was reading the part about a deadly storm when that sheep knocked into me." He shook his fist angrily in the direction of the flock of sheep, a wild look in his eyes.

"Let me see," Spyro said, peering at the scroll. After reading the whole thing, he turned to Hugo. "Should I make an announcement? It sounds like this Northern Spirit sure could liven up the place if we were to find it."

Hugo nodded. "Go ahead. But good luck rounding up all of the Skylanders!"

Spyro inclined his head and turned around, bounding over to the crest of a hill. He gazed at all of his friends playing around.

Double Trouble was shouting in some odd language and waving his staff at a couple of sheep, scaring them right into Voodood, who prodded them with his electric Axe Reaver and caused them to puff up like marshmallows. Wrecking Ball was toddling after Stealth Elf, trying to catch her with the tip of his tongue. Stealth Elf was way faster, however. Gill Grunt and Flameslinger were trying out target practice, while Trigger Happy was shooting at everything in sight - the rocks, the sheep, the sky, even poor Quigley Molekin a couple times. Boomer and Zook were hurling ammunition at Bash, who swatted it back at them with his tail. Drobot was busy chasing Drill Seargent around, and Slam Bam, Stump Smash, and Eruptor were having a brawling match in the secret cave. Terrafin was pulverizing sheep. Wham-Shell was scuba diving. Zap and Lightning Rod were trying to hotwire the pirate ship, which was technically impossible, but no one had the heart to tell them. Dino-Rang was testing out his new boomerangs by chucking them off of the highest cliff in the ruins. Prism Break was trying to make fire with his beams of light, while Sunburn and Ignitor were playing monkey in the middle with a terrified-looking sheep as the ball and Whirlwind as the monkey. Sonic Boom was training her babies how to fight with Warnado as the training dummy. Camo was blending in. And Hex, Cynder, Ghost Roaster, and Chop Chop were all playing an all-out Undead game of Zombie Tag.

"Skylanders!" Spyro shouted. Everyone stopped what they were doing and stared at him.

"We are going on a quest to find a legendary spirit of the north," he said loudly.

Instantaneously, chaos (the common noun form) broke out. All the Skylanders made a deafening beeline for Flynn's balloon, causing Flynn to drop his mirror and hop in the basket. Cali and Hugo hopped on just as the balloon was taking off.

Chapter One

Spyro's POV

The wind whistled in Spyro's ears as the hot air balloon took flight. He caught a glimpse of the Core of Light glistening below and Gurglefin waving good-bye before they were up in the clouds.

It was amazing. Eagles rode on thermals around and below Flynn's balloon. Cloud formations in the shapes of everything imaginable drifted past, seeming to become animate for a few seconds before blowing away. The epic journey had begun.

Spyro turned to Flynn. "How well will this thing manage with all of us in here?" he asked.

"Oh, with me driving, she'll hold up better than titanium," Flynn boasted. Spyro saw Cynder open her mouth to give Flynn a good lightning blast and shot her a look. The last thing they needed was to have their baloonist take flight and become a grease spot on the ground far below.

Cali peered over the edge, grinning. "This is so cool!" she said, her ears forward. "I've always wanted to try this!"

Spyro figured that cats didn't normally get the chance to fly across Skylands in a hot air balloon, so he didn't question her.

Hugo walked up to Spyro, a silly grin on his face. "The sky. The only place in the world without sheep, and we're there right now!" he said, sounding excited.

Just then, a cloud formation in the shape of a sheep drifted by. It seemed to blink before blowing away.

Hugo clapped his hand to his forehead in an exasperated facepalm. "Not cool," he mumbled, walking to the other side of the basket.

Suddenly, there was a deafening screech and the balloon was knocked out of sky.
