Do you mean the level "Dark Mine", "korsop"? If so, to get out of it, simply go back the way you came, or simply battle Red (which when beaten will send you back to a homeworld-like level you were in to start that section of the game.

no its this bit im stuck on Charge along the corridor and at the end, use your new Ice Breath on the white steam vent next to some pole spins. This turns it into a temporary extra pole to spin on. os i can seem to change it in to a pole

It just takes some practice, and some decent aim, to freeze the poles just right. But anyways, I was stuck on this, too, before I noticed something odd. Okay, so once you get to the top-most platform, there's a path directly ahead of you that lead you to the light gem, right? Well, on this top-most platform, position the camera so that it's facing to your left. You should then be able to see the passage leading to the top-most area that was impossible to reach using the other path.
