I'm trying to think of a way that I can tint Prism Break's crystals yellow to reflect his path in the game.

Is there anyone with experience in these matters that knows of a dip or dye that would be effective?

I don't think you'd be able to change the tint without fully repainting the crystals. There was a video not too long ago about someone who shoved lights into the crystals, which were pretty cool, but it still had that blue hue to it.

I just finished watching that video. Makes me wonder why Activision didn't just run fiber optics to the crystals from the get go. Then the portal could make them "light up" and when you choose the path for yellow crystals, the portal could light up yellow under him causing them to appear yellow.

Seems like a good bet that got missed by oversight.

Anyway, I'm thinking about dipping his crystals in RIT and see if that will work. Might have to experiment on something similar before I do something I'll regret.

^ They didn't even want to do that. It is a waste of time.

Erm can't you like bleach em? Bleach turns everything white / yellow.

I've never tried to intentionally bleach anything. Won't that melt the plastic?

if its a blue stain to clear plastic, nail polish remover would take that off. but if its blue plastic your only choice is to remove and replace.

So are the translucent crystals on Prism Break blue plastic or just "stained" blue?

Not that it's vital or anything, but I really want to have my figure represent the in game character as best as I can and happen to really enjoy the Prismancer path and the yellow look of the crystals when on this path.

Bleach wouldn't melt it, since it is neither extremely acidic nor extremely basic (though neither would melt it per say, just essentially break it down). Regardless, I would not recommend bleaching them because who knows what effect it would have on the color lol. Best bet would be to paint it with inks to retain the translucent nature. Here is an example from the D&D Castle Ravenloft boardgame. These flaming skeletons are originally a translucent blue color.

That looks absolutely perfect for what I want to do. What sort of inks did this person use? I'm guessing he got them at a hobby shop or modeling shop or something. Do you know or should I send him an email?

Wish I could tell you. I just remember seeing that a while ago and thought it would be what you're looking for. I would shoot him an email.

have you tried coloured cleared selafaine? or tried melted coloured selafaine?

I think there was a video on you tube of someone doing that to a crystal or clear plastic!

Like that guy said you can just ink it, or get a stain. Stains are translucent so you will get the dye effect. However you will lose translucency but it will look similar to that skeleton.

Try it out and post your findings! Prism Break is not that hard to find!

As for what you guys are suggesting will not work in regards to dying it...cellaphaning it or bleaching. It is a piece of plastic that was processed with that color, and most likely can not be bleached as the plastic has already set. Short of melting it down and reforming it...it won't happen. You could pop out the crystals and insert something new...like REAL crystals or construct your own.

Either way, don't play with chemicals without a good working knowledge of them. Please be careful folks.

Thats why I said no bleach. His best best is to use a stain, like they use on glass, to try and tint it to the color he wants. I'll actually try that out tomorrow and report my findings. I'll pick up a test prism break while I'm at toysrus being disappointed.
