This is a message to all you makers of Spyro fan videos on YouTube. It accompanies this piece of art by me. I am tired of you guys stealing my work. I am posting this to all the Spyro forums I am a member of.

This is a special message for all YouTube Spyro video makers. I will know if you didn't read this.

For the past six months or so, I've been seeing my art pop up in various Spyro videos. Now, I don't really mind this, so long as I am credited somewhere, be it in the video's credits or in the information about the video. However, most of the videos wherein my art has appeared do not seem to be made by people who realize that real people are behind art. If they credit anyone at all, it's usually this faceless viewing site known as deviantART, and, as we should all be aware, dA does not draw its content, artists do.

Well, I am an artist. I work hard on the pictures I provide for all of you. I don't get paid to do this. I do it for free. All I ask is a little recognition. What do I get instead? Complaints, demands for free art, and the work I have done gets stolen by kids who spent maybe half an hour cramming it into a video with a horrible song and claiming they worked really hard to make it.

And just today, not only was my art stolen, it was defaced. A YouTube user put two of my Spyro/Cynder pieces in her video...and defaced them so that Cynder was replaced by her Mary Sue fan character. (It is also worth noting that she took and modified a piece by :devartiste_violet: and ~Spyroflamesredsbum.)

This. Is. The last straw.

From this day forward, if I see my art in your video and my name is not listed anywhere as the artist, I will flag your video for deletion. No polite comments explaining to you that you have committed art theft. Not even a ****y complaint asking to be credited for my own work. You have no excuse not to know who I am and no excuse to leave my name out when my work is involved. Should you decide to keep including my art without crediting me, I will seek to have you banned from YouTube.

I am sick of this and I will not stand for it any more. If you like my art, that's great! I love it when people want to include my work in something they're making, but at least include my name along with it so that your viewers can come and see the original work and, if they feel like it, maybe give me the praise that is all I get for drawing for you people every. Single. Day.

^I got it after reading the whole thing on the first post. Terrible... I have joined youtube in March, and I haven't got the time to make ANY youtube videos yet. But, after reading that, I understand how important it is now. If I'm going to make a tribute for something, I will certainly do so of what you said, Razz...

I'm not a member of youtube and even if I was I wouldn't know how do make videos and even if I did know how videos I wouldn't have the time to make one

See, this is why when I end up doing "tributes" on my own YT channel, I make sure I do ALL my original resources beforehand rather than nicking other people's fan work/using lame contemporary pop/rock/punk/rap/emo music. It's horrible to see that happen to you Razz, and I seriously hope by expressing this in this manner, people will finally get the picture; it's so annoying

I understand you entirely Razz, even though I have never seen my art in a video. I can still imagine how art theft feels. (and just for the record, I comprehended the long version of your vent. )

You got it JUST RIGHT. The fact that people leech stuff from such sites shows how lazy they are in doing it themselves. Plus, I become really annoyed if such footage ends up being used in a video, boosting someone's ego and profile at YT.

On the one hand, I am not against slideshows when the media you are making the video is mostly still media (as with certain comics). I'm not even entirely against using art and stills when you do have access to media in motion...so long as you credit whoever took the original clips, drew the art, took the screens, whatever.

It's when people just take the art that someone poured a part of their soul into, slap in with a pop song, and say "lol I werked hard on this! Thanks to deviantART for the pitures" that I start to get a bit irritated. Just saying that the art wasn't drawn by you isn't enough. If you don't name the artist, then you have committed theft and deserve whatever consequences become of that.

You guys who make videos with your own materials are awesome and I heart you. I also heart anyone who has the common sense to thank the artists/screen shot makers/game makers/video makers. They are, alas, rare.

I remember for a summer a few years ago. I helped a friend make videos for eSnips. Since he was mostly into Devil May Cry, people asked if he could upload the soundtrack music. Since I had the music, we used Window's Movie Maker (and it was a painful process) to merge his muted gameplay with the music. Like if we did the track Ultra Violet, he would fight Nelo Angelo (and then just mess around if there was still time left in the song).

I'd like to make an addendum to my original post.

I do not support flaming of art thieves. If you see someone stealing art, it is very likely that she doesn't know she's done something wrong. If you must say something, try to be polite and let her know that what she is doing really is theft and it hurts not only the artists but her viewers who won't have access to the full-quality images they deserve to see. Insulting the video maker is disreputable, mean, and heartless, especially when the maker is most likely just a kid. There is a difference between constructive criticism and just being a jerk.

Flagging videos for deletion because of art theft is a perfectly reasonable thing to do.

Also, I'd like to take this moment to say good-bye to DarkSpyro. This has been a fun site, but I no longer have the time or the energy to keep up with it.

That is cruel, "Razz". That's why when I get the chance to film videos (if I get a camera at all), I'm going to make sure I site my sources in the message right next to the video, and at the end of the video's credits.

Side Note: Would it be okay if that if I get to make Spyro videos that it would be okay if I cite the website where I found a piece of artwork (if I include any) in MLA Format, and also mention the person who did the artwork as well?

Sorta... kinda... take a tip, ask the artist first, and send them a link when you're done. Second, AVOID SLIDESHOW MOVIES. The most you should use a picture for is an opening/credits to your video.

Yeah. If I do get a camera, I'll most likely post videos regarding gameplay and a few glitch discoveries along the way.

Razz, I totally symphasize with you on this one. I can imagine how it must feel to have you're own life's work stolen and manipulated, without even a moment's concideration for you, the artist who put her soul into that piece. I recently saw one with two of my paint pics of Spyro too and I've still to leave a comment.

HIR, Slideshows are ok as long as it's your own artwork or that you've credited and asked the artist if you can do so beforehand. I've made one myself of some of my own drawings regarding Spyro.

I Love your pics Razz, I use them to make movies in movie maker but i ALWAYS give credit to you at the end.

I dont take any.....I have never seen that pic on any videos on youtube....but If people ask that will be all right wont it?

Credit, people, CREDIT!!! I dont copy dawings and say they're my own, i draw them myself and i dont care if it takes me a week to do them! I dont copy pics!!
