my guess is that when your playing online with the portal the "hero level" saves to your skylander, but how dos it save when you use a web code?
dos my xbox just check the hero level whenever i use a skylander on it and then save it to the skylander itself? or is it never saved to the skylander?

You'll need to manual click 'Update' while the Skylander is on the portal in the lair.

so if im useing the portal the hero level saves right to my skylander?
and if im not, i click on "update" and next time im on my xbox live it will save my hero level to my skylander?

When you are in the lair there is an option to look at your skylanders stats. From that there is an option to update your skylander. This requires the portal being hooked up in the online version.
