I found a couple of things that really helped me so maybe you'd want to see them.
If you want to fight Ineptune without having 20 dark gems:

already new about the ineptune one, didnt use it because i like to play games fair and square smilie

i found a glitch in eskimole village, the 95 light gem gate, after i completed the game i was runing around, being stupid with spyros charge, when for some reson i went through it, and i only had 66 light gems, is it because i scrached the CD, or is it somthing else, because i have scrached other CDs and glitches happened on them, i'm just as confused as you are, any ideas why it happened?

My guess is that it was saving, like Zoe zapped you and the game was a little weird for a second, but idk

There is another Ineptune glitch, but this one is much easier to do (at least for me)

haha, i just found out, you know how you can get glitched cds, well i brought a glitched cd,hahahaha(laughing my head off)hahahahahahaha.

I could've used the Ineptune one years ago. Then again, it probably would've scared me then.

well, haha(still laughing my head off) anyway, you know that door in eskimole vilage, and how you needed 95 light gems to open it, strate after i got zaped by zoe, and then i was through the door, and i only had 69 light gems, and it happened with all the other light gem doors aswell.
