Is it that appeared in Spyro skylanders means that with it the end? No, more games? Hopefully not!

I don't think so. Skylanders looks like it's already succeeding, so this is probably just the beginning of a new generation of Spyro games.

Not to hurt your feelings, but it is extremely unlikely that TLoS will ever have another game.

And the same goes for the original Spyro games too, I think from now on, it will be Skylander related from Activision. |

Actually, Activision have already stated that Skylander's is a brand new franchise. Spyro is just a playable cameo, for extra publicity.
They said Spyro may go off on his own series if it does well. Here's to hoping it does.

I have to say that I agree with you, the extra accesories is a little over doing it in my opinion, and I think they should go with the fans, but then again that's got complicated now. |

I'm willing to bet that if Spyro does get his own game, it's going to be tied in with Skylanders at least in terms of design and setting.
As a classic fan to the end, I made my peace with the good ol' days being gone years ago when LoS came out. I suggest the rest of you classic fans do the same. And LoS fans, it's your turn to join us in nostalgia. The games you love will always be there and you can go back to them any time you want. |

I doubt it will be the end if the game sells well enough and people want more Spyro.
Though it is the end of LoS. Sorry. |

I have mixed feelings for all three of the series..
But in my own opinion I don't I want another LoS game. What I really want is an updated version of the original triloy. Again In my own opinion.. But I am for sure buying Sklanders.

This may make no sense, but I know Skylanders is based on the originals, but right now, it is nothing like them, lol. You only play as Spyro really, only have basic attacks, all the original characters, etc. It's still a different idea to the originals because of the gimmicks, and they have changed the gameplay slightly. Even the camera angle is different. |

...Yes? How does this contradict anything? What I just said was that I made my peace with the classics not coming back when LoS came out. I didn't say I liked LoS more than them (god no). I grew up with the Insomniac three and I still love those to this day. |

Hee, no worries. I was right confused by that, though.
I did used to be something of a LoS apologist, though, I can admit that. But even when I liked LoS it didn't hold a candle to the originals for me. |

ANB is still the high point of LoS, but it does get old pretty quick. I liked TEN for being so over the top with all that darkness and atmosphere, but I'm pretty sure we weren't supposed to be laughing that hard at it.

Oh yeah, I hated playing TEN for the same reason. The game his a ridiculous difficulty curve. But I never played any LoS game for the gameplay (which was bland at the very best of times). I just thought TEN's atmosphere was pretty hilariously over the top.

Blink: That's what I like about Skylanders. It's just familiar enough, but it's got its own very unique feel to it.
Super: Yeah, the pirate fleet was awful. I really hate that they didn't include the cheats that you had in ANB (which takes out all the crappy gameplay so you can just play for the...crappy story....huh. Why do I own these again? ). |

I replayed ANB and used the cheats to see what is was like, and it bored me. It's good to keep them really, it's like a bit of history for good old times sake, even though half the time I get frustrated, but it brings back great memories (Sarcasm) But I shouldn't have gave away ANB and TEN, I would like to mess around on them occasionally, like I do in Avalar on DOTD. |

I'm a bit of Spyro collector, so I won't be giving up my copies of the LoS games or EtD. Sometimes I like to break them out and torture myself. As for the cheats...I didn't find ANB to be challenging in any sort of enjoyable way, so I never felt bad for using them once I found them since I wasn't ever playing for the game proper.

Although I could say I'd like to see the LoS universe continued, and I could say I want another Classic (because both would be awesome to me), what I really wanna see after Skylanders is:
A Spyro game with some real next-gen hook. Doesn't matter what universe - Classic, Legend, Skylanders, or something new. I just want a next-gen hook.

The only issue I have with Skylanders is the toys. I don't like the idea of having to go buy toys in order to play as certain characters.
|
sonicbrawler182 Platinum Sparx Gems: 7105 |
#33 Posted: 21:40:58 29/07/2011
The only reason I have an issue with the toys is because:
1) Some die-hard fans and uninformed reporters call it "an original, innovative idea". It's nothing new at all. 2) The gameplay itself looks SHHHHNOOOORRRing. If the gameplay was really cool, I'd consider the toys worth it.

I'm one of the only ones who likes the toy idea. It may be old news to some, but not to all of us, and I've certainly never seen or heard of it being this well integrated before. This is also the first time things like RFID have been used for something like this, and it appears to be a much more expansive take on the basic idea of putting toys in games.
As for the gameplay, like I said, looks fun to me. Granted, I'm a cartoonist, which means I've got the gaming sensibilities of a six-year old...which bodes well for Skylanders. And I really don't see what the deal is with worrying about collectors. If someone wants to have all 32 characters and all the extras, what do you care? It's their money. I've got three Spyro games I can't play and a strategy guide I can't read but I am pleased as punch to have them for my personal collection (and let's not even get started on the entire comic series I own that I couldn't read until Marvel translated it just a couple years ago). |

#35 Posted: 23:44:00 29/07/2011
I just see the gameplay as "SHOOTY, SHOOTY, SPLODY, SPLODY", and I've seen that done to a much better degree in many other places. I think I'd only like the gameplay as much as ANB's.
I don't have a problem with what other's do, at all...collect all ya want!

It looked like a lot of collecting and basic puzzle-solving with some easy platforming to me. I guess we see what we like (or dislike) with this footage.
The collector comment was aimed at others, SB. It's just something I see crop up and it always feels a bit too nosy the way people word it (and often rather misinformed since those people seem to have a terror of being forced to collect toys even though the smallest amount of research into the game will prove to them that they don't need to if they don't want to). |

There is collecting and puzzles, but they seem to take the seat furthest back on the bus, while the fighting drives.
I know, but it just felt like something worth giving my stance on.

It doesn't really look like that to me at all. LoS was a combat-based game series and it looked very different from what I've seen of Skylanders. There looks to be a lot more variety in it than in LoS, at least from what I've seen. The combat is more similar to very old-school platformers, where you just take out enemies that are in your way as you move forward in the level.

sonicbrawler182 Platinum Sparx Gems: 7105 |
#39 Posted: 03:20:18 30/07/2011
Most of the gameplay seemed to be blowing up enemies and stuff. LoS was combat focused, but TEN and DotD were more focused on using actual strategy to dispatch of enemies. Skylanders looks like ANB, where you just used really explosive attacks to get rid of enemies. It looks like an arcadey shooter, in a way.

#45 Posted: 10:00:57 30/07/2011
Spamming is much slower though, especially in TEN, and if you're someone who complains about cheap deaths in TEN, it's probably because you fight cheaply yoourself, by spammong. Remember, in a game like a LoS, it's only a button masher if you play it like one. It's much handier to come up with combos and think things through.
Also, what Jackson said is also true. Cynder's Shadow Strike actually has the bonus effect of confusing enemies, making them attack each other.

I remember at the end of TEN, right before the battle with Gaul, there was an enemy spawner battle in the middle of a ring, and instead of fighting the right way, I just glided off to the side where there were some endless green crystals, and just shot electric balls onto the ring from a point that the bad guys couldn't reach me.

You just have to lure her off, by gliding around in and out of the arena.

I assumed it wouldn't work, since she could just fly back onto the arena, but video games lack such logic.
