During Spyro's fight against Gaul in The Well of Souls, Spyro is pushed into a beam of Convexity that has come down from the sky. Spyro ends up being corrupted by the Dark Master as the evil dragon tries to escape his prison. Spyro is turned into Dark Spyro, a black-scaled, white-eyed dragon of darkness. After defeating Gaul, Spyro is saved by Cynder and turned back to normal. However, he has turned into Dark Spyro other times after this, for he still has darkness within him.
