It's a good story, but it needs to be a bit steadier. I just hope it doesn't turn out like White Fang, which started really well, but ended poorly.

17! at long last!

“What’s the bad news?” Seth asked, and Gabriel growled low in his throat, sensing that it had something to do with the others. He looked up just as a bird stopped flying in midair, and then began to fly even quicker than before. Everything was moving faster, and then it stopped again and started to back up. Daniel’s scream was heard from, if his guess was right, about half a mile behind them.
“Other vampires,” Draven said in a horribly severe voice. Ky’s shrill yell took the air as well. Without another word, they rushed back; it took only a moment for them to rejoin the others.
“So glad you could join us,” A deep, seemingly pleasant voice greeted them. They were standing in the middle of an outcropping of rocks. There were five trees in an odd formation like a circle. Gabriel saw a squirrel scurry up a tree, stop, and scurry back down again. A man stood in the middle of this clearing, and he smiled hideously. “Name’s Nathaniel. Take a look around; we have plenty of entertainment for you.” Around them, time continued to stop and flow forward, then stop and reverse, as if a child were playing with a DVD player remote. A wind brushed Seth’s cheek, and then ruffled his hair as time reversed again. Gabriel snapped his head up to look in a tree behind Nathaniel as Daniel’s cries took the air. There he lay, tied to the tree on a thick branch with a girl standing over him. She had long, silky black hair and brown irises. Her skin was tanner than most vampires’, and she had painted her nails blood red. She laughed sadistically, an annoying sound that reminded Gabriel of nails scratching on a chalk board, and twirled her index finger in the air. As she did so, time stopped again, and began to fast forward. Daniel shrieked, his eyes closed tightly as blood spurted out of his mouth. Whatever was happening to him, his ability was tearing him apart from the inside... and it looked like the girl was forcing it to happen. Seth’s eyes glowed and faded; he had learned her trick.
“Daniel is being tortured in his sleep,” Draven said gravely. “He was knocked out before this started.” Ky screamed then, distracting the three; they looked to the side, where she lay tied against another tree. Another girl, this one with bleach blonde hair and blue eyes, smirked as she floggedKy with a chain whip. Gabriel flinched at this, his breath catching in his throat. He was frozen by memories.

17 pt 2

“What the hell are you doing?!” Seth growled, resentment rising in his tone as he glared at Nathaniel.
“Silence,” the man’s voice turned cold, and he glared at Seth, who collapsed to the ground. His eyes went wide and he began to cough, unable to breathe. He started clawing at his chest and forced himself to breathe, though it came out in wheezes, his eyes glowing as he absorbed the ability.
“He’s taking the air from his lungs,” Draven said, his voice revealing how angered and disgusted he was. He too was frozen, however, probably by Gabriel’s memories rushing through them both.A man with tree brown hair dropped from behind them and put his fingers on Draven’s head. He had a very obvious scar across his right hand, Gabriel could see. The man pushed his fingers into Draven’s temples, hard enough that he cried out in pain. Heresisted at first, fighting to get away. The man kicked him in the back of his leg, however, and he fell to his knees. He pressed his fingers into the skin at Draven’s temples, and a black darkness began to creep into their eyes from their corners.Seth screamed; his ability to learn was taking energy from him that was meant to help him fight to breathe. Draven hissed angrily, turning to and distracting Gabriel; the man released him. He backed away, an amused smile tugging at his mouth; everything had happened in a manner of moments.
“Kill him,” He ordered shortly. Draven hissed angrily, but seemed as though he were fighting it. The man frowned. “A Guardian and a Subject,” he said in a reporting voice to the man who had greeted them. “No one else can even try to resist.”
“Interesting,” The man namedNathaniel laughed cruelly. “Have him attack anyway, Gerard.” The other man nodded, and Gabriel hissed;his own eyes were beginning to turn fully green, though he didn’t know it.
“Kill!” The order came out a bark, and Draven’s hesitation disappeared. He threw himself at Gabriel, who jumped back, dodging narrowly. Draven caught him off guard, though; when he dodged the blow intended for his front, Draven moved and hit him in the side with his claws. Gabriel cried out but moved away from him. Out of the corner of his eye, Gabriel could see Gerard going over and hypnotizing Ky. The girl that had been whipping her, he saw as he continued to move, now was untying her. “Kill him.” Gerard smiled sickeningly. Once she was freed, Ky lunged at Gabriel, just as Draven had. It took everything he had to duck away from her blows- she was much faster than he had known. He evaded one of her slashes, only to be met with Draven, who grabbed him and restrained him from behind. Ky slapped him across the face, but with her claws out it made four slash marks across the area from the corner of his eye to his nose. His eyes, now fully green, glowed intensely, and he shouted in rage. Everyone stopped moving except for Seth, who continued to struggle to breathe on the ground; something was rumbling. Gabriel screamed again, louder as his fury increased, and suddenly the ground began to shake.
“What the hell?” Nathaniel asked quietly. He jumped into a tree, and his pawns followed him, including Draven and Ky. The earth below began to crack and split open, and Gabriel –still hissing angrily- grabbed Seth bridal style. Angry as he was, he still knew if he picked him up any other way he would have even more trouble breathing. He jumped into the air as if he were a dragon taking off, leaving a large dent in the ground where he’d been.
“You’ve gone too far!” Gabriel screamed, his voice entwined with wrath. “Now pay!” He didn’t know how, but he knew he was the one doing this. The earthquake increased in volume, and wind began to pick up violently.
“Let’s get out of here,” Nathaniel ordered, his eyes showing panic.
“Come,” Gerard snapped. Ky and Draven nodded sharply, the entirety of their eyes black as coal, and they followed the four strangers. All six of them disappeared into thin air, leaving nothing but black mist that dissipated. Gabriel gasped as he saw Daniel fall to the ground right next to a giant crack in the ground, and the odd natural disaster slowly ceased. He dropped to the ground, laying Seth down gently. He ran to Daniel, who had an arm hanging in the opening, picked him up and laid him beside Seth. Seth had calmed a little and was gasping less desperately, but Daniel’s eyes were closed, and blood trickled down his chin.
“Daniel,” Gabriel whispered, tears clouding his eyes. “Please, open your eyes!” Daniel gave no response except for a small, shuddering breath. Gabriel opened his brother’s eyelid with his thumb, but the pupil did not respond. He felt as if he were choking as pain throbbed in his heart. He gave an agonized moan, feeling sure that he had lost his older brother.
“Gabriel…” Seth rasped, gaining his attention. “Help…me…”
“How?!” He cried, but it came out in a desperate whisper. A tear trickled down his pale cheeks.
“Come…here…” Gabriel bent over him obediently, and Seth grabbed his arm tightly. Gabriel felt abruptly as if his life were being sucked out of him; his head began to pulse, his breaths came faster, and his vision blurred. His mouth dropped slightly, and his lower lip gave a small tremble. His breaths sounded as if he were exhaling heavily, when in fact he was inhaling. Seth gasped, his eyes lighting up again, and he jolted into a sitting position as Gabriel began to fall forward. He caught him and bit into his neck without hesitation. Gabriel whimpered, so breathless he was unable to scream from the pain. There were no hormones numbing him, but he could feel that Seth was helping him despite the aching feeling. His lungs, which had felt as if they had been encased with freezing water, were beginning to feel normal again. His breathing gradually went back to its normal pace, and he could see again. Then Seth shoved him aside, but before he could object he saw Seth bite down into Daniel’s neck. Daniel did nothing, and Gabriel gave a sad, unstable breath after a few moments. He opened his mouth shakily, and snapped it shut, unable to speak. He was sure now; Daniel was dead.

“Danieeeeeel!” Gabriel dragged his brother’s name out in a long, heartrending yell. He grabbed hold of him in a tight embrace, unwilling to let go. Seth, on the other side of Daniel’s unconscious body, snarled angrily.
“Forgive me, Gabriel,” He growled. He shoved him off of Daniel and punched the unresponsive man brutally in the stomach. Air was forced out of Daniel’s lungs and he coughed up more blood, but started to breathe. His eyes fluttered open, and he regained what little color he had.
“You’re forgiven,” Gabriel breathed, and tackled Daniel into a hug, who coughed up blood once more. It landed on Gabriel’s shoulder, but he ignored it.“Thank God you’re okay…”
“What happened?” Daniel asked, his voice sounding rough. “My throat is killing me…”
“It’s from all the choking you did,” Seth said quietly. “You have a sore throat from all the blood you coughed up.”
“What?”
“The woman that was torturing you used your time control against you while you were comatose.” Seth explained, his voice a whisper.
“Where are Ky and Draven?”
“They were hypnotized. Nathaniel, the man in control, took them with him.” Daniel sighed discontentedly.
“I knew this was too big a group. This was bound to happen… they’re probably going to kill them. …We should keep moving. There’s no way to trace them now.”
“What?! But Ky’s my friend! Draven is my Guardian! We can’t just leave them!”
“And what do you suppose we do?” Daniel sounded angry and bleak at the same time.
“…” He fell silent, looking at the ground. At length, he gave a defeated sigh.
“Exactly.”
“We’ll find them,” Gabriel growled, forcing confidence into his voice. “I know it.” He jumped into a tree and then vanished. Seth hissed.
“Damn it Daniel! Look what you did.” He disappeared as well, in a huff. Daniel shook his head.
“Great. Now I’m the bad guy.” He muttered, and followed them.

18 pt 2

When they arrived where Gabriel had led them, they looked around to find themselves outside a stone building. It was decrepit; the windows were boarded up with rotting wood, and the glass beneath was shattered. Gabriel, feeling apprehensive despite the fact that he had teleported for the first time, did not move any farther. Daniel growled.
“If we’re going to do this, then you need to dedicate yourself.” Without waiting,Daniel went inside, and Seth pulled Gabriel by the arm to follow. When they got in, they stopped beside Daniel, who had stopped cold in his tracks. Before them lay an open trap door, and they could hear a man screaming from the darkness. Each of them scented the air, smelling blood.
“What… is going on down there…?” Seth asked, his eyes widening.
“Let’s go find out,” Daniel said tersely. He walked forward and vanished into the shadows.
“It’s obviously a trap,” Seth said in a hushed tone.
“It is. Daniel’s no fool, though,” Gabriel agreed. “He’s going in because he wants to.” Reluctantly resolute, he strode after his brother with Seth on his heels. They were met with stairs that smelled of mold and dust, but they continued, Seth shivering as they did. The temperature was noticeably colder down here, and if he had to guess, Gabriel would say it was a little less thanthirty degrees; below freezing. His breath came out in white wisps ahead of him as he moved, and he heard an echoing thud as his foot stepped on something. After the sound started, more sounds, like gears moving, were heard from within the walls. He jolted to a stop, the hair on the back of his neck standing on end. Seth and Daniel did the same behind him, and only then did they realize how narrow the passageway was.
“Don’t pick your foot up,” Seth whispered hastily, but it was too late. Gabriel had lifted his foot to see what he had stepped on. Suddenly the sounds ceased, and there was one last, very loud clack as something slipped into place. Gabriel cursed his own foolishness as the ground began to shudder, and Seth grabbed Daniel and Gabriel by the back of their necks, throwing them on the ground. Within a second he was beside them; the three of them landed on their backs, watching as the silver points of thick, needle-like spikes came out of the walls. It took a less than millisecond before the spikes clamped together; had they been human or still standing they would’ve been impaled instantly. Gabriel gave a terrified breath, and found himself thoroughly grateful that the wall spikes only started two feet up from the floor. The spikes did not retreat back into the walls; they would have to crawl their way out.

18 pt 3

“Be on your guard,” Seth whispered as they turned over. “People could be listening. We have to stay silent, and never stop moving again.” Again, a scream pierced the air, this time a woman’s; they recognized it as Ky. Gabriel gave a small shiver and then, being in the lead, began to move military-style through the crawlspace. He was beginning to pick up on Draven’s thoughts again, which had ceased to be available to him after the hypnosis, and he could feel the fear permeating his Guardian. He snarled under his breath, feeling an intense anger pull him; he wanted Draven’s fear to end. He began to crawl faster, losing focus on his surroundings. Soon the spike wall ended, and there was room to stand again. He got up and started running, and Seth bolted after him to try and stop him. Daniel was faster, and caught Gabriel’s wrist just as he started to fall.
“You idiot!” He hissed. “You would’ve died!” Gabriel swallowed; he was hanging over a deep pit. The fall alone would kill a human, but he could’ve lived through it. Right now, it didn’t look as if there were any threat down there; it looked just like the empty, cell-like areas in a sewer. However, there were tunnels that could certainly lead to danger.Daniel pulled his brother up with a small grunt. Gabriel clung to him as soon as Daniel bent to see if he was okay, feeling disturbed.
“Why didn’t you just stop time?” Seth squatted down beside them and asked in an interested, troubled voice.
“I can’t… not since what that woman did to me. I… It’s like the part of my brain that controlled it isn’t functioning right or something. Besides, why didn’t you stop time?” Daniel hugged Gabriel back, his heart beating rapidly.
“…I’m not strong enough to use that ability yet. I’ve tried.” Daniel sighed.
“Then this dip**** goes running like a fool…You’re the only one I have left, Gabriel. Don’t make me lose you…” He tightened his hold, speaking softly into his baby sibling’s ear. Gabriel buried his nose into Daniel’s shoulder. Seth, in the meantime, stood up straight and began looking for a way around the pit. Seeing none, he backed up and made a dead run for it; he jumped at the edge and landed on the opposite wall, his claws digging into the stone. He hissed in pain from gravity pulling on his nails, and quickly began to climb up the stone. He stood up on the other side, sighed, and looked over to them with a smile on his face.
“There are lights up here,” He whispered across the ditch. “Lanterns are strung up throughout the hall.” Daniel, getting the picture, released Gabriel and did the same as Seth, also crossing successfully. As Gabriel was preparing for the jump, however, a deep growling came from the tunnels on the right side of the pit, and his body felt immediately like stone.
“Gabriel!” Daniel screamed, panic seizing his voice. “MOVE!” He couldn’t even try, though Seth and Daniel both persisted to shout at him to run. He couldn’t make himself go as he saw the thing come out from the shadows, hissing and snapping at him. Its scale-covered tail swished through the air, and he saw wings flattened against its back. It locked its white eyes on him –which had neither irises nor pupils- and made a gurgling hiss in the back of its throat. He forced himself, then and there, to bolt. He jumped and landed straight on the other side, adrenaline pulsing through him. He ran as soon as his feet hit the ground, Daniel and Seth right beside him. He looked back only once, and was met with the sight of It jumping onto the ledge behind them. As It did so its wings unfurled, revealing grotesque, black membranes as they flapped. As a result, a rush of air washed over them, bringing with it the vile stench of decaying flesh. It was following him; he could feel its heavy footsteps behind them, hear its Pterodactyl-like roar.
He couldn’t help but think that this seemed vaguely familiar… he was torn out of his thoughts, though, as two figures came out of the walls, grabbing Daniel and Seth. He knew as soon as he saw them he could do nothing for them, for the shadows had already melted back into the walls. He felt the terroricing his bloodbut he could not stop now; he couldn’t let himself be killed, not while there was still hope for Draven and Ky. The lanterns were blowing out behind him, and up ahead he could see that they stopped showing up. Suddenly he was struck down, landing on his back; he hadn’t seen that It had been catching up to him.
Die! It screamed into his head. He shouted out loud from the pain of hearing how deafening its voice was. It pushed its massive paw down on his chest, covering him from his collar bone to just above his knee with only its palm. Two of its long, finger-like claws surrounded his head on both sides. It thrust him into the ground, creating a crater beneath his body.
“What are you?!” He screamed. “What do you want from me?!”
I am your death! It hissed. I am to be feared! Do you feel the terror chilling your bones?!
“I do!” He screamed, his body tensed uselessly. “I’m afraid!”
Of course you are…I can feel it coursing through you… Its eyes seemed to smirk, mocking him. Pitiful vampire, I will be your end! It began to crush his body into the stone under him, and the claw on the far right side of its paw sliced his arm open. The scent of his blood flooded the air, and suddenly It stopped, throwing its muzzle in the air to identify the aroma. You… you are not normal, vampire! It screamed in outrage.
“What do you mean, creature?” He asked, his voice rigid from his fright.
You are a descendent of Her! How dare you enter my domain?! It pushed down violently on him, and he heard something begin to crack. He screamed as the pain reached him, closing his eyes tightly. He knew it was the end, and he had accepted it. Suddenly the pressure was gone, however, and he snapped his eyes open just in time to see the shadows pulling him in.

you're all going to kill me for this. but, i noticed the story was... drull, to some people. So. I finished writing it, and the story has no deviated at all from it's original path. THE STORY IS STILL EXACTLY WHAT IT WAS GOING TO BE. ...BUT. Gabriel no longer exists. In his place is a girl named Krista. ... if you would like me to start over i will do so gladly -by starting over i mean reposting everything for you- or i could continue on, but just know that Gabriel is now Krista. you see, many people want a female protagonist. all of the other characters are still the same in importance, name and value.

i know... and i don't like the decision. but it was necessary, since it will probably be easier to publish now. at least those who read it here know about him, and will not see some replacement in the published story but will still see him in her place.
