What do you guys think? Do you guys think a future Spyro game will see the return of the LoS characters? Or do you guys think they are gone for good.

I very much doubt we'll ever see them again. The LoS franchise didn't do very well financially and that's the death knell for a game series. If any old characters come back (which at this point is seeming unlikely) they will probably be from the older games.

I agree with Razz. LoS is dead and it's not coming back. They ended the story, it didn't sell well, it didn't go off very well with the critics, it's done. If they re-release the games in the future, that's when you'll see them again.

You might see the odd character like Cynder coming back but as a new character for that series.

If Cynder ever did return, she would have a different name, personality and design... If I recall correctly, most classic fans hated her, and since SSA is aimed more at the classic fans than the LoS fans, so they'd not reintroduce her, but use her as a template, if that makes any sense?

At this moment it seems very unlikly even for classic characters to make a return appearence, so I doubt that the characters of TloS will be in the game whatsoever.
remember also, it's not only a Spyro game as they said themselves, but a Skylanders game so that makes it seem very unlikly.

I honestly think we've seen the last of them, for better or for worse. If I'm honest, even if they or classic characters did make a return, no doubt they would be completely different to the extent they aren't really the same characters.

The truth - Every time a Character is bought back after even a short amount of Games, they aren't the same Characters any more.
For example, Hunter's return in DotD.

Hunter's return in DotD is the proof as to why LoS characters shouldn't appear in a future game.

I don't see what's so wrong with him, other than lack of screentime.

Well, the problem I see is that he changes too much from the Originals. Firstly, his apperance is completely messed with. He looks like an Altair rip-off. Secondly, his personality is dull and boring. He lacks the Cocky attitude from the originals and just bores me. Also, as you said, lack of screen time. But this is just my Opinion.

Exactly. He's dull because he didn't have much screentime, ergo, we hardly found out anything about him. But he seems to have a really rich potential backstory.
And remember, it's a reboot, of course he's gonna be different.

Of course, he is meant to be diffrent, but he was too diffrent to my tastes. He just generally seemed nothing like the Hunter I grew up with, and it's hard to adapt to a new Character after you've been used to the same model for Several Years.

He changed in AHT too, and hardly anyone cared.
It's kind of hypocritical. The same people who say people should stop making "silly little complaints" about Skylanders generally make similar types of complaints in regards to LoS, and in some cases, AHT.

It's not that he was too different. It's just that the change came out for the worse. He was dull, boring, and tried too hard to be Altair or Ezio. He lacked any personality. And it's not because of lack of screentime. They should've shown his personality within the first few scenes, but they didn't, which makes me believe that he has nothing.

It's because the game was rushed. DotD was lucky to end up with a story as passable as the one we got. Compare it to something like Sonic 06....

Yes, I'm aware the game is rushed. But that still wasn't much of an excuse. I applaud them for doing what they could under short notice, but if Hunter is going to end up like that, you may as well scrap him from the final product.

But then how and Spyro and Cynder supposed to know where they are going?
They used Hunter as a navigator.

His job wasn't completed. He didn't even have one. It's like they forgot Hunter was suppose to be in the game, and added him in at the last minute.

Me and my brother lead ourselves. Hunter made no impact and we even forgot he was in the game. He had no job in our eyes.

I know, but again, it was mainly due to a lack of attention. I kinda wish they focused on Spyro a little less, TBH.

Why focus less on Spyro, in a Spyro game? People complain enough that Cynder was given too much time (even though I don't find it that bad).

Because I feel he is the only one we know much about...him and Sparx, that is.
Other games do it fine. Sonic Unleashed had a huge focus on Chip, and other characters like Professor Pickle were shown off well. FFXIII made Lightning out to be the main character in all the marketing, but in the actual game, all 6 party members were equally focused on. I could go on all day. It's why it makes me sad TLoS was a trilogy of average sized games, as opposed to 1 or 2 huge ones.

Well, he is the main character. But you are right. We needed to learn more about the other characters. But that's on the fault of the writers. Even with average games we should've learned about the other characters.
And Sonic Unleashed was able to do it, simply because we already know about Sonic. Oh, and Chip is quite possibly the worst character in the franchise (besides Big). |

#33 Posted: 23:42:26 12/03/2011
Yes, but with the first two being solely based on Spyro, it's difficult to get everything else into a 10 hour game, while still focusing on Spyro to some notable degree.
But we pretty much knew Spyro by DotD too. Personally, Chip is one of my favourites in the franchise, if not in gaming, and yes, I'm still a straight guy.

It is. But that's why you need good writers.
Your point being? How would liking Chip mean you're homosexual? And I hate Chip. |
sonicbrawler182 Platinum Sparx Gems: 7105 |
#35 Posted: 23:56:22 12/03/2011
I was happy with what I got, but it could of been a whole lot better. I wish at least DotD got a two year development time.
My point is that if we already knew him, they could of easily focused on others a bit more. A lot of people literally think Chip is homosexual, and assume the only people that like him are girls that think he's adorable, or homosexuals. No joke. Yeah, kinda figured that out from the "worst character in the franchise" line.

I completely ditched any story or character development. The only character developement that made any difference in that game is Cynder. So I left it all alone and went bare bones and focused soley on gameplay.
Yes, but he's still the main character, and he has to defeat Malefor. The focus still needs to be on him. If Chip was homosexual, Sega would've made it obvious. Ok then. |

I doubt it'll happen unless they end up making a better end for it. Which I also doubt.
But if any do come back, then they'd probably be Cynder and maybe some of the Guardians. |
