Yes, TEN on the GBA is difficult, especially on Hard mode.
It's really fun isn't it? Finally, foes that do not just walk up to you and wait for you to smack them to next Tuesday! Gotta love how the Elemental Spirits are actual, original bosses rather than appearance swaps of Ice King with lamer attacks! Oh and of course, the Advisor. Cool character, tough boss. What's not to like? |

Ditto. I can be a little clumsy in my gaming exploits at times (just ask Zero >.>) but if I can pull through it, so can you

Having difficulties with even Easy mode?
I think that the reason why you have difficulties is that you rush blindly. TEN GBA has infinite lives but its checkpoint system is definitely old-school ; there are no midway checkpoints, the game only saving your position when you enter new areas (screen fade to black). Due to this, you will have to go through entire sections on one life meter. Do not just charge forward and mash the attack button. This will only get you killed and although you might get limited success on Easy mode, you will still not be able to outlast every foe all the time. Be cautious and patient. Rather than see foes as just obstacles to make disappear by pressing the attack button non-stop, see them as walking puzzles. Analyse how your foes react upon seeing you and how they attack you. Then, experiment with your moves and see how they react to yours. Form up strategies for every foe and pull them off. Also, fight intelligently and remember this wise quote: "There is no cowardice in running away from a superior foe." Fighting battles you can't win will only leave Spyro with cuts and bruises. If foes gang up on you, run away. If a foe is in a position that gives it an unfair advantage, forget about the foe. If you fight battles that you can't win, you will just keep losing. If you are however forced in unfair situations, do not give up either. Use your character's fury and special attacks to try and cut a way through the foes. Try to develop a way to exercise "crowd control" over mobs of foes. See how they act in groups and use your attacks to foil their strategies. Finally... although stage-based, TEN GBA does follow the Metroid platform game archetype by providing multiple routes and hidden power-ups. Clearing the game with a "low-level" Spyro is very difficult so search every nook and cranny for power-ups. If a route is too difficult for you, try another one. I do not know if you already know all of this but well... good luck! Hope you'll enjoy your runs through TEN GBA! |

Anyone who has problems with it on Easy mode second and above time around has problems. It only took me 2 1/2 hours to beat it on Easy mode.
I'm currently working on Normal mode and have gotten to the Earth Temple with some ease. I'm afraid of Hard mode though... xD Zerodius gave you GREAT advice though. :/ How do you Fury again? o.o Quote: katara45

Hey, on my first time through (heck, normal mode even), whenever I found myself getting hit on a brick wall, it's usually best to consult a guide or ask someone for help. Which part in particular is giving you issues?

I have posted a guide for dealing with the GBA game's bosses if you're really stuck on the Earth Spirit. It's one of the sticky threads in this forum.

To be frank, the Earth monster is probably the toughest elemental avatar in the entire game, so I can understand the frustration. Zerodius's guide is very helpful when it comes to devising strategies other than the standard "beat into next tuesday" routine most other enemies require, so I hope there's something there that can help you.

Like I said, Zerodius's boss guide is very useful to cite if you are having issues with the GBA bosses. Trust me, I was similarly stumped on the Earth boss the first time around.
One thing I can say is that a trick that is often used to dodge attacks but not even mentioned in the manual for some ridiculous reason is a dodge roll; quickly double tap in the direction that Spyro isn't facing and he'll roll in that direction (so if he's looking to the right, double tap left to make him edge to the left a bit). I see it to be most useful when dodging the Earth avatar's melee moves. |

The quickest and easiest way to beat the Earth Boss is to upgrade your fire breath to level 2 (so you get the flame thrower effect) and use the double tap back (Dodge) mentioned above to avoid attacks. You should be able to remove the majority of the Earth bosses health with just using the fire breath. When you run out of energy just hit him a few times and he will die.
