Night creeped over Avalar like a shadow. The land was- empty. Only one dragon egg remained- The last dragon on earth. He would have to live alone. The abandoned cheetah village was a ghost town now. Cheetah bones lie upon the cold ground, and winds howled around the village. The waterfall had dried up years ago, and the cheetahs died of thirst, in that very village. By the time summer rolled around every year, it had been so cold the cheetahs had thought summer would never come again. They were right. A crackling sound emerged from the last standing cheetah home, and a sharp, black dragon nose poked out of the egg.
It seemed as if it would never hatch, come out of the egg, when the mother dragon took her last breath. She died right there, next to her dragon egg, 3 weeks before tonight.
Her body was still there, cobwebs growing larger and larger every day. The baby dragon had sharp wings, and they were large wings, too. He was big for a baby dragon. He looked around anxiously. He stopped when he saw his mother's body. His instincts told him to bury her, but he was not sure what to do. He sat there for a few minutes, but got up and started to dig. He slipped his mom onto his back with ease, and flew to the hole. He felt ashamed that he didn't even have a name that his mother wanted to name him. He gazed around, and saw a pile of dragon eggs, unharmed. He walked over and poked his sharp nose through a dragon egg, but nothing was inside. He sighed, and went on to the next one. Again, filled with misery, nothing was inside. 12 more eggs and still no luck. He poked his nose through one more and saw something, a dragon! But it was dead, and a cold gush of wind raced through the air. A ghost. He decided to give up. There was one more egg. Nothing, He thought. The egg cracked and out stepped a beautiful pink dragon. One more dragon, not related to him, and beautiful. He was definitely in love.

"What happened here? Something looks wrong." The beautiful pink dragon, that the black one had named Rose, said after a few hours. "I have no idea. I saw my mother...but she was dead. This place is a ghost town. Ghosts howl with the winds at night. No water, food, no dragons. Nothing but an abandoned town. A small town. How will we survive?" Nightmare, the black dragon whispered, afraid to be heard by the ghosts that surrounded the small village. "I don't know. I'll have to take care of you, and you'll take care of me. It's what families do, even though we aren't family. Just like we named each other." Rose suggested. They decided to stick with that plan, since that was the only one that wasn't about dying.
They gathered wood that was rotting around the village gates. they pulled brown grass out from under them, and burned them. Theey sat around the warm fire, and gazed around. The dried up waterfall and river, the dark caves. "The caves! We can hut in a cave!" Rose said. "Yeah, I guess we could stay there. He got up, blew water at the fire and gathered more wood and grass for the caves.

"I don't know how we're going to survive...we don't have food. Or water. We need something." Rose said. Cold wind howled through the cave, the same cave Spyro and Cynder stepped foot into millions of years ago...and died in millions of years ago. Midnight spotted a sparkle out of the corner of his eye. "Over there! I saw something..." He ran over and saw a chest. He opened it and saw armor, and whispered,"Wow...It's beautiful..." He took the armor out and put it on. A moaning sound filled the air. "Ghosts..."Rose whispered to herself. "Take the armor off! You're making them angry!" Midnight yanked off the armor and started running farther down the cave...He was terrified.

He saw a light, and dragons. "Hey! Who are you people?" He shouted, getting closer. The moaning sound continued and he knew what was going on. He was in a haunted cave.
