No, I don't think the two have anything to do with each other than their both in Spyro games and are red.
Compare Flame to Ignitus. The voice changes way to much. I know voices change when you grow, but not that much. Flame has yellow runes or whatever their called, while Ignitus has brown. Also Ignitus has those things on his arms, where Flame shows no sign of having them any time soon. Father and son? I dunno, maybe that's somewhat possible, but I doubt it. They are in entire different worlds but the looks of it. Flame grew up in some dragon village. Whereas Ignitus spends almost all his time in the temple, right? Perhaps they both originate from the blue print of red dragons who specialize in fire. I think the word Ignitus has some sort of link to fire. The character on the other hand, is the elder in which specializes in fire. So it's only natural he would be a red dragon. (Someone have a blue dragon that breathes blue fire already! Fire looks cool when it's blue.) Flame is self explanatory. Even though I don't think it ever shows him breathing fire or attacking at all, he's red and his name has a link to fire which possess a giant flashing sign over it. |

^Yeah, maybe in general they could be related just with the color. But specifics, definitely not. Also, with the whole Ignitus name being related to fire, ignite is to light something on fire, so that's what his name has to do with his element.

I think that Ignitus could be Spyro's dad more than Flame's. First Spyro's element is fire, Ignitus was watching after him, he gave his life to let Spyro complete his task etc. (it's only my opinion)

Maybe Spyro, Ignitus, and Flame could be all related somehow, like in a fanFic. I could see it if Ignitus was a father or grandfather to Spyro, and Flame is like a cousin... Maybe. it would be neat to write a story and have that in it, in some way. I might try that.
But they'd probably never put Flame in a tlos game, and if he was in a new game, (like Hunter) they'd make him differant.

All Flame said was, "Go kick that Gnasty Gnorc's butt!" or something like that. Flame only had two lines. No one knows anything about his past.

Why do people always forget this?
Flame also made an appearance in SL. His screen time in SL was defiantly longer than in AHT, and I think he even appears multiple times as well. He did get you more exp. or whatever it was. While it wasn't much, he had more character growth in that game, at least in my opinion. While yes, nobody knows anything about his past, or anything after the events of SL, saying he only had two lines is incorrect. |

Well, Cynder is the only female dragon in TLOS, so.... I'd say go for it, Ember would be a nice touch.
Back on topic, I think Sierra just wanted a red dragon because they look 'cool'. They brought in Flame, Red, then they brought in Ignitus.

I meant in terms of how many red dragons there are - Compared to Insomniacs 'duller' colours.

I think Ignitus was there so it would be an elder to help Spyros powers and to be a fatherly figure to him. So really Ignitus was there to help Spyro master his fire power and act like a father to him so he dosen't feel alone.

I think Ignitus was red because he's the fire elder.

Red dragon is stereotypical, red means fire etc. So if Spyro's first element was fire, it was obvious that a red, fire dragon (maybe his father, why not?) would be teaching him.
