Chapter one – Merciful paths

The wind brushed past Szarotka’s tail. She stood in front of Gamith, her wings lightly blowing in the breeze. Szarotka gaped at him, blushing. Shortly after, they were interrupted by a rustling sound from the bush. Szarotka stopped her motion and flicked up, shifting around to see what it was. Her bright red hair lashed to the icy ice shards that sprung out from her cheeks.

In a moment of time, a dragon by no other name of Chief Shenum rushed out of the bosky bush that lay in a short distance. Gamith shot up tall, Chief Shenum thanked them, slightly bobbing his head down.
“I distinguish the fact you two are rather reliable and mature to accomplish this important profession?” He asked, blinking his eyes. He already knew the answer. Gamith hesitated.
“Yes! Tell us, Chief!” Szarotka chimed in, skipping closer. Chief simpered, admiring his royalty.
“Very well then, we have constantly been gaining food shortages lately as our Harvester has being ill lately; you two can collect us food-” Szarotka glanced up gleefully.
“Awesome! What shall we catch Gamith? The fearsome wild boar?” Exclaimed Szarotka in excitement. Chief cleared his throat, indicating he hadn’t finished. Szarotka reddened.
“Anyhow, since your both rather young to do of such, you will be rewarded with the job to collect berries,”

Szarotka grumbled in disappointment. “Nevertheless, you should get to it now and maybe I’ll give you extra time at the beach!”
Szarotka hurried out of the village gates. Gamith, noticing Szarotka had disappeared quickly ran after her.
“You’re too fast!” He gasped in his panting. Szarotka snorted a laugh. They were no berries left, only one, but it was dried out like an old raisin. Gamith moaned. Szarotka ignored the dissatisfaction of the missing berries, catching her eye on a ripe bush. Gamith stopped her in her path. “Stop! You know were not allowed there! Father told us that that’s-” He stopped as Szarotka butted in.
“Chief Shenum, your father, not allowed there, blah, blah, blah!” She mocked. Gamith blinked hard.
“I’m not being like that. I’m just saying that the consequences look harsh if you do go in Broksemu,”
The whole tribe, including Szarotka and Gamith had been told by Chief Shenum not to visit Broksemu. No further information was given to them though.

”Come on Mr.Boring!” Szarotka cried, dragging Gamith towards the berry bush. The land was now infested with dust and decaying skeletons. They both shuddering not even thinking of them.
“We should turn back,”
Szarotka clearly disagreed. Gamith didn’t say anymore, of course he didn’t want to be a ‘wimp’. They soon got towards the bush. For some reason they both began to wish they never got here. Suddenly they were a loud bang. They were both separated by the falling of a large leafless tree. Szarotka began to regret coming here.
“Gamith!” She cried. Gamith whipped the trunk with his coral red tail. The tree didn’t budge though. Szarotka glared down at the dust in sorrow. “It’s my entire fault,” She garbled under a mound of deep breathe.

Out of the blue rattling dragon skeletons marched after them both. Szarotka turned. She had the chance to run, but she couldn’t leave Gamith behind.
“Go on without me,” He said, esteeming himself to fight. The skeletons were getting closer and closer.
“No one fights alone, you know that,” Hinted Szarotka. Gamith picked it up.
“You can’t fight with me. I don’t want you at risk. Besides, were separated. Leave me here.”
Szarotka ignored him. She wanted to help. She didn’t want him to die, or fight alone. Szarotka began a series of ramming her horns into the bark. She grabbed onto the top, digging her claws into the bark. She lifted herself on top of the trunk heaving. Gamith stared in awe, surprised. Szarotka leaped down, ready to fight.
“You ready?” She asked with her fighting smirk and stance. Gamith nodded.
“Always,”

The foes screeched loudly and pounced towards them menacingly. Portions of fire scattered around them like schools of fish. Szarotka snarled as ice shards shot out and stabbed the ground, turning the fearsome foes into piles of bones. Now it was Gamith’s turn. Blazes of ember and fire streamed towards the monsters. Yet again, another pile of bones. But only a few were killed. That was just one percent of the entire thousand percentages. They were surrounded. There was no hope left. Of course until…

Chief Shenum hurdled towards them both. Blades of inferno bullets glided straight into the crowds of cursive enemies. They all dropped dead fast. Szarotka weakly laughed, looking up to the tall figure.
“Hello, your majesty,”

Chief Shenum glared in anger and worry. They followed him as he stormed out of the area, back to the village gates. They both knew what was coming.
“Why?” He steamed with anger.
“We were just going for berries!” She then looked down, noticing she or Gamith wasn’t supposed to answer it.
“I gave you both the grand opportunity to do yet a simple occupation, and yet you can’t do it without getting into trouble! You know you’re not supposed to even set foot in Broksemu! You could have been dead, or worse!” He yelled. They mumbled, but they knew he only cared about them. He hadn’t finished though. “This better be the last time you two are up to mischief!”
“Why are we not allowed in Broksemu then?”
Chief Shenum sighed and cooled down from his anger.
“Its time I told you,”
Gamith finally showed interest, snapping out from twiddling with the grass.
“Szarotka, you weren’t always part of the tribe-”

Swiftly, a loud bang smashed into the peaceful sound. Looks like more were coming. Within seconds, the whole village was ruined. Szarotka and Gamith ran towards the beach.
“We have to get out of here!” Shouted Gamith over the screaming.
“How do we?”
”Come on just-“
Gamith looked into the water, and then looked at Szarotka.
“Let’s do this together,” Szarotka whispered, before admitting, Gamith had already dived into the water. Taking a last look of life, Szarotka followed in after him. This was the end. But only fate can decide.

I wish I could.

Hello there. I’m Aro. I would prefer to call myself: The wander of others. Well no time, best speeding off to seek next.

Chapter two – The start of a new life

The shores purred calmly. Szarotka blinked her eyes open at the azure sky. Seagulls fluttered around in the sky squawking, disturbing her sleep. Her first though was Gamith. Was he dead? Was he asleep? She nudged him. He moved over. She nudged him again. He finally opened his eyes.
“Szarotka!”
Szarotka admired it when he said her name. “What happened?”
”We escaped from a massive attack on the village,”
The memory flashed back. He nodded.
”What are we going to do now?”
”Finish Chief’s last sentence, of course,”
Szarotka nodded. Szarotka stumbled away into the bushes. Gamith kept at his own pace, following her.

“My father-“He slurred “Dead. Find out about you past?”

They stopped as a large green dragon stood in front of them.
“And where might you two young ones be going?”
The dragon’s russet hair blew in the wind like an old flag. They jumped back, scared. The green dragon laughed.
“Greetings, friend.” He greeted kindly. Fear died. Szarotka smiled.
“Hello, I’m Szarotka and this is Gamith” She said.
“Is be goin’ by the name of Grenfel, besides what are you two young ones up too?”
”To find out about my past!” Szarotka called proudly. He smiled himself. He stared at her for a few seconds and then bursted into a fit of crazy laughter.
“I don’t mean to be rude of any matter, but it’s going to be a harsh journey!” He sniggered. In discomfort, Szarotka wanted to know why.
“Why?”
”’Tis the last days of every life!” He explained loudly. “Mantle terrorises the land with great threat, you’re hopeless!” He then added.

“Don’t listen to him Szarotka!”
Szarotka calmed down. They ran away as he continued his laughter. “He won’t be laughing, when we stop this Mantle,”
“Who is Mantle then?”
”I don’t know, but we need to stop him,”
They were stopped again by snow.
“Wanna play in the snow, just for a little break?”
Gamith signalled of agreement.
”Yes, just for a short time,”

Time past fast. It was getting late. The sky had darkened to navy blue. Gamith added the finishing touches to the Snow dragon. Szarotka chuckled, giving him a hand.
“The sky, it’s beautiful on a night, right Gamith?” She flirted. They settled down.
“I guess so,” He replied, watching the gleaming stars. “Ever wondered why the stars are out here?” He asked. Before Szarotka could answer, she saw a young light green dragon with various coloured stripes.
“Hello there! Who are you?”
The dragon grinned happily.
“I’m Elite why thank you. I’m off on a search to find out the truth of my past,”
”Same here. This is me Szarotka and of course Gamith,”
“Hello Gamith and Szarotka. Id just been told before I left home that I wasn’t always ‘Me’”
Szarotka looked surprised.
“You left home? How old are you? Ten? Nine?”
”I’m eleven,” She finally answered, staring at the sky. “We leave at eleven, but I still wish I was older,”
”Me and Gamith are thirteen and even we cannot leave,”
”Really? I thought you were adults,”
”Nope, we are the tall Shenum dragons,”
Szarotka stood up tall to demonstrate there tallness. Elite stood in awe.
“You’re taller than I even expected,”
Szarotka scrabbled back on four legs.

“We better be going now,” Said Gamith. Szarotka said her goodbyes and then sloped away, following Gamith. Elite abruptly stumbled after them. They congested at the sight of her.
“Wait!” She called over the strong breeze. “Can I come with you?”
Gamith glanced at Szarotka.
“Sure!”

Chapter three - Salvo

Szarotka snored constantly. The wild built up fast, now the petite breezes were now violent storms. The weather was harsh, but even worse to the fact they didn’t find any shelter. A young dragon skated towards them in the distance, jolting from stone to stone from the nearby cliffs. The stones crumbled and fell, but the young dragon never showed fear, or no doubts. As well as that he never showed courage either, which was of such strange combination.

Elite flipped up, attentive of the young dragon. Watching with him olive eyes, as he collided with the soft ground. He gaited up to her with a wide smirk.
“And you are?” His French accent ringed as she stared at him lifeless. She butted out and smiled in embarrassment.
“I do apologize, but you were rather good on those cliffs,” She apologized, worried she might of sounded weird. He tittered at her humiliation and bowed down to greet her.
“That was nothing!” He boasted, standing soaring in front of her. Elite giggled.
“Silly me!”
Salvo bobbed down in understanding, then continuing. He cleared his throat.
“I am Salvo,” He said proudly “I greet you and grant you good willing,” He added, remembering his manners.
“Hello, I forgot to answer you. I’m Elite,”
