I've written fan fics but this is my first one about Spyro.

1. Please don't add on.
2. I don't mind helpful suggestions but please don't send something saying you hate it.
3. this is before Cynder and Spyro fall in love so before DoTD. Actually, I'm not sure where it is in the game's timeline. Also, Spyro and Cynder are both grown up but they don't live together.

Chapter 1
The autumn wind blew gently across the lake. The trees of the valley swayed slightly, leaves of gold falling from the branches. Spyro sat calmly on the other side. He was alone. Sparx was in the den Spyro lived in, sleeping. Cynder had not left her den for a few weeks and had not even bothered to visit Spyro.

The sky overhead was cloudless except for in the far distance a small black cloud swirled.

"It will never get here." Spyro murmured to himself, "That cloud is too far away to cause a storm."

Suddenly, the wind grew and whipped in the purple dragon's face. The wind died down immediatly as a small light flew onto the surface of the lake. For a moment, Spyro thought it was Sparx; then he realized what it actually was.

A small, golden butterfly was flying above the lake. The shimmering light around it was so bright it was almost blinding. The butterfly soared towards Spyro and stopped only a few inches away from the dragon's nose.

"You must leave..." a tiny voice whispered.

"What? Why?" asked Spyro, secretly thinking he should kill this creature and feed it to Sparx.

The butterfly said nothing more and flew off in the blink of an eye.

Spyro stood for a moment, wondering what had just happened. What did that glowing little creature want? It did not make sense.

Why must I leave? Spyro thought.

The question answered itself as the wind blew stronger than Spyro had ever felt. It whipped his face and blew his wings back so strong that they carried him into the air. There was screaming, which he realized was actually the sound of the wind surrounding him.

Then silence.

*Chapter 2*
Spyro awoke suddenly. How long had he been asleep? What had just happened? He looked around and saw that he was no longer in the peaceful valley he called home.

He was now in a strange forest. The sky above him with dark -- there wasn't even a moon out. The trees were dark and gnarled with twisted branches.

"Where am I?" Spyro asked himself.

He began to try to fly up, hoping he could see where he was, but his wings ached and he could only fly a few feet above the ground. Spyro groaned in annoyance -- he was stuck here.

Spyro tried to figure out how he got here. He thought back to the past day of his life. He had gotten up, talked to Sparx, gone on a walk, Sparx had gone back to bed early, Spyro had decided to go sit by the lake nearby.

That's it!

Spyro remembered that when he came to the lake he had seen that golden butterfly. It had told him to leave. Then that wind storm had come.

"So that's how I got here," Spyro decided, "When that wind came I must have been transported here... Where ever I am."

Spyro tried not to panic. Sparx would wake up and realize Spyro wasn't there. He would probably go tell Cynder and the two would work together to find him. Yes, that's what would happen.

However, Spyro could not help but be worried. What if Sparx did not wake up for hours? What if something happened to Sparx?

Suddenly the bushes to the left of Spyro rustled, and an eerie howl came from the west. Spyro jumped in suprise and ran, ran as far as he could. Spyro knew he could fight off whatever creature was approaching, but he did not want to attack and fight anything unless he had to.

Spyro eventually, stopped. The only sound now was his panting. He looked around... He was alone. Alone, and completely lost.

OOC: Really quick, since this is my first fan fic, I'd like everyone who reads it to comment on it please!

Also, the next chapter is being worked on and should be posted shortly.

Chapter 3

Sparx awoke suddenly and yawned. He looked around sleepily. He suddenly realized Spyro was not in the den. Puzzled, he flew outside.

It was near midnight.

"Where would Spyro go this late?" Sparx asked himself.

Sparx flew around, searching the entire valley for his purple friend. After about two hours, he knew something was wrong.

Sparx was not sure what to do. All he knew was Spyro was missing. After a few moments of thinking, he knew where to go -- He would ask Cynder if she had seen him.

"Spyro's... missing?" asked Cynder skeptically.

"Yes," answered Sparx.

"How long ago did this happen?" she asked.

"I dunno," replied Sparx, "I went to take a nap and when I woke up he was gone!"

"Did you check the valley? That's Spyro's favorite place." Cynder suggested.

"I did!" Sparx answered.

Cynder sighed, "Well he couldn't have gone far. If he is really missing we'll find him."

Sparx nodded, but was still worried about his friend. What neither of them knew, was while they talked Spyro was lost in a forest hundreds of miles away.

Spyro looked around the dark forest. He realized he had been here so long that the sun should have rised -- but it did not.

He sighed, "This place just keeps on getting creepier."

He decided he would walk to the direction he thought was the north and see if he could find a way out. He suddenly heard the branches above him crack and he looked up to see a black figure sitting in the trees.

"Welcome to the forest," the creature hissed.

Chapter 4
Spyro froze. Something was there and it did not sound friendly. He took a deep breath, "Who are you? What do you want?"

A creature came gliding down on bat-like wings. One look at the animal and Spyro's eyes widened. It looked like a cat. A black panther Spyro's size. The only difference from a normal cat was small, pearl horns behind her ears and black bat wings.

Spyro snarled at the cat and got ready to flame her with his breath. She sat down, "Relax, I'm not going to hurt you."

Spyro did not trust her, but he did not want to attack. "Who are you? What are you?"

The cat rolled her golden eyes, "You'd think a dragon would recognise his own species."

"You're a dragon?" Spyro asked in shock.

"You are clueless." the dragoness remarked bitterly.

Spyro snorted, "Well what's your name?"

"I'm Zerena," the dragoness replied, "And you are?"

"My name's Spyro," Spyro answered. He decided to trust this dragoness for a while -- he needed all the help he could get.

"Hello, Spyro." Zerena said.

"Do you know where we are?" asked Spyro.

"No," Zerena replied, "I was just having a nice nap in my cave and when I woke up in this place."

"So do you have any idea how to get out?"

Zerena shook her head, "No clue. I tried flying over the trees but it's just forest for miles around."

Spyro sighed -- he was stuck here.

"Well we had to have been taken here for some reason." Spyro said.

Zerena nodded, licking her paws.

"We've got to work together to get out of here, then."

Zerena's eyes widened, "Why? I can take care of myself."

"I know, so can I, but we'll need all the help we can get." Spyro admitted.

"Your time's up, dragon!"

Spyro and Zerena whipped around and found themselves standing in front of a giant lizard with a skull mask. He held a spear, ready to attack.

Chapter 5
Cynder paced back and forth worriedly.

"He hasn't been seen for hours now!" Sparx complained.

"I know, but we can't panic." Cynder replied, "Spyro's strong. He can take care of himself untill we find him."

"I hope," Sparx added grimly.

"Don't say that," Cynder snapped, "We'll find Spyro!"

"Yeah, at least we're trying to find Spyro."

Cynder snorted, "We just have to keep looking. We'll find him.

The lizard charged but Spyro simply rolled his eyes -- he had taken larger enemies than this in his sleep! He charged the opponent but to his surprise the lizard avoided the attack easily.

"It's not going to be that easy." Zerena noted.

Another lizard suddenly came up from behind Spyro and roped him. Zerena turned her head and yelled, "It's an ambush!"

However, it was too late. Both dragons were already tied up and being dragged through the forest.

"Hello, dragons." a voice rasped.

Both Zerena and Spyro were stuck in a cave somewhere. They where behind bars with ropes around their necks. The two dragons looked at the one behind their capture and saw that it was a lizard.

He was not much bigger than a normal lizard, but he stood on two legs and had a wand in his hand. He smiled evilly, "I am the Lizard King -- the ruler of this forest."

"Why did you capture us?" asked Zerena.

"I don't like intruders in this forest," answered the Lizard King, "Especially dragons."

"Why?" asked Spyro, "We didn't even want to be here!"

The King did not answer. He turned to a female minion and hissed, "Mayst, guard the prisoners while I decide what to do with them."

The lizard minion nodded, "Yes master. Of course."

The King walked out as the female minion, Mayst, scurried over.

"I don't see why the king care so much about you two." Mayst commented, "You don't looke too threatening to me."

Zerena hissed, "Let me out of here NOW!"

"Sorry, not with the boss around." Mayst answered.

"So you will let us out?" asked Spyro hopefully.

"Maybe," Mayst replied simply.

"Look, I don't have time for games." Spyro said, "I've got to get back to my home."

Mayste sighed and whispered, "Listen, I can't help you now. At midnight I'll come back and then I'll see what I can do."

Spyro beamed and Zerena nodded, wagging her tail. There was a chance of escape.

Chapter 6
The air was cool, even inside the cave. It was impossible to tell what time it was, for it was always dark here.

Zerena paced back and fourth, "We've got to find a way out!"

"Relax," replied Spyro, "Mayst said she'd help us, remember?"

"She said she'd see what she could do! Not help us!"

"I can tell that she'll help us. She's not evil like the others." Spyro asnwered.

Almost on queue, a shadow appeared. Spyro turned and saw the female lizard minion, Mayst, sitting there.

"Hello dragons." she said.

"Hello," said Spyro, "Will you help us now?"

Mayst looked around caustiously and whispered, "Listen, I don't know how you two got here, but I have an idea of what's going on."

"What?" asked Zerena.

"A creature -- far worse than the Lizard King -- lives deep inside this forest. He has been living here for years. Each month we must sacrafice one of our people to the monster."

"And...?" asked Spyro.

"He threatened us last time." Mayst told them, "He told us he would find a creature of great power and destory us and our colony."

"And we're those creatures?" asked Zerena.

"That is my guess."

Spyro dipped his head, "Thanks for the information. Do you think you could free us now?"

Mayst nodded, "Certainly,"

The lizard carefully unroped the dragons and they left the cave.

"Thank you, Mayst. We won't forget this." said Spyro.

"Yeah, we owe you one." Zerena added.

With that the two dragons padded off into the dark, cold forest. Both of them knew of the danger that lay ahead, but neither of them knowing of the task much greater that anything they had ever experienced before.

Chapter 7
Sparx could not sleep that night. His friend was mising and there was nothing he could do. He and Cynder had searched all day but found nothing.

"Spyro! Where did you go?" he asked himself aloud.

There was no sound but his echoe.

Spyro padded through the forest as Zerena leaped from tree branch to tree branch.

"We've got to find this creature." Spyro told her, "He's the only one who can take us back to our home."

Zerena leaped to the ground and landed on her feet.

"Why? We could probably find a way back ourselves." she noted.

"Because I'm injured and can't fly and you've already tried to get out but couldn't." Spyro answered.

Zerena sighed, "Well where do you think this thing lives?"

"Mayst said he was deep inside the forest."

"Ok, well as far as I know this forest goes on for thousands of miles." Zerena stated, "That could be anywhere!"

Spyro sighed, he knew Zerena was right. This would be an incredibly chalenging job.

"Listen," he told his black cat companion, "I think we should split up."

"What? Why?" asked Zerena.

"If we travel together we'll be more vulnerable to the enemy and slow each other down." Spyro explained, "It would be best if we head our on way."

Zerena looked at Spyro for a moment, as though she was going to protest. However, after a sad look she spread her bat-like wings and soared into the starless night sky.

Chapter 8

"You let them escape?" roared the Lizard King furiously.

Mayst looked away in fear and quetly mumbled, "It was an accident."

"I give you one simple task... ONE SIMPLE TASK!" the King roared, "AND YOU FAIL!"

Masyt's eyes shut and she winced, knowing she would be punished terribly.

"I am going to show you what happens when you fail me..."

Spyro regretted leaving Zerena only minutes after doing so. He needed someone to talk to.

He walked on, slowly dragging one large purple foot after the other. His head low and his tail dragging the the mud.

"I... am... never... ever... going... to get out of here." he sighed, "That creature will probably find me and kill me and that'll be the end."

Her remembered Cynder, and Sparx, and even his new friends Zerena and Mayst. He wished they were here. He needed to do something productive.

Then the earth began to shake.

Spyro's amethyst eyes widened with fear and he sprinted away. There was an earthquake and he just was not fast enough to escape. The ground shook, making him fall over on his already-injured wings.

Then a rolling rock hit Spyro's head and he fell unconcious. Though he did not know it at the time, the earth under him was colapsing, making him fall into bottomless darkness.

Chapter 9

Spyro awoke with a jump and looked around. He literally could not see an inch in front of his nose. Everything was blackness. He breathed some fire and saw that by the looks of it there was only darkness for miles around.

He sighed, "Why do I always get myself into this kind of mess?"

The only answer was his echo.

"So," began a voice so fierce and dark it sounded as though the dead were coming out of the grave, "You are the one who was supposed to save the world from me..."

"Huh? Who are you? What do you mean?" asked Spyro. He was not sure where to turn to face this creature for it sounded as though it was surrounding him, like it was this blackness.

"I am the High King, ruler of the dark side." roared the voice.

"Why did you transport me and Zerena here?"

"You mean the kitten? I didn't transport her here -- she's been working for me the whole time." hissed the High King, "As for you; I called you here because the Lizard King alerted me of an old prophesy saying that a purple dragon would come and destroy me."

"So you called me here so you could kill me instead?" Spyro guessed bitterly.

"You are a very smart dragon," the High King hissed, "It almost makes me feel bad to kill you..."

Sparx was now incredibly worried. Spyro had not been back for four days. Cynder was coming over that night to see if they had any suggestions to where he might be.

"Sparx? Are you in here?" asked Cynder's voice as she padded through the cave.

"I'm here," mumbled Sparx.

"Good, because I know where Spyro is."

"What?" Sparx's mood suddenly lightened.

"I met a creature who says she just saw a purple dragon!"

Out of the cave came Cynder, and next to her was a small, female lizard.

"My name is Mayst," the lizard said, "I am a friend."

Zerena felt horrible. She knew she had turned Spyro in. It was her job to get Spyro to go to the High King but she felt like she had betrayed a friend.

She sighed, "What should I do? If I save Spyro I'll be killed but if I don't then Spyro will be killed."

Zerena could not decide.

Chapter 10 1/2 (only have time to write half a chapter)

Spyro looked around the blackness in fear, "Can you tell me this prophesy?"

"If you insist," the High King hissed, "In exact words, the prophey states that on the darkest night in the darkest forest, a beast of purple shall rise above all and bring down the creature of evil...

"How do you know you're that creature of evil? Couldn't it be someone else?" asked Spyro.

The High King was silent for a while, then said, "I plan on making sure this prophesy fails, dragon!"

Cynder looked at Sparx, "She says she knows exactly where Spyro is and where to find him."

Mayst nodded, "Yes. My ruler, the Lizard King, banished me from the forest. However, just before that he had caught two dragons..."

"Two?" asked Cynder.

"Yes," Masyt answered, "A black, furry one with the face of a cat; and a purple one with golden horns and red wings-"

"That's Spyro!" Sparx interrupted.

"I can take you to him, if you like."

"Yes, we'd love to." Cynder said, wagging her tail.

Chapter 10 1/2 (ok, here's the rest of the chapter)

"Show yourself!" Spyro growled at the darkness around him.

"Why, certainly."

There was an evil cackle and the shadowy darkness around Spyro dissapeared, in its place stood a giant black dragon. His eyes were nothing more than purple slits, his wings like a giant bat, and his claws the size of Spyro's body.

Spyro shivered, "You- your're the High King?"

The High King's laugh spread a chill through the air, "Yes,"

Spyro looked up and saw where he was -- about three hundred stories underground. If he could only fly with his injured wing he would be able to get up there and escape.

Mayst slithered through the valley as Sparx flew and Cynder followed on foot. Suddenly, Mayst stopped.

"There are only two ways to contrinue," Mayst began, "Either get called by the High King, or know the spell to transport yourself."

With that, the she-wizard began murmuring something in a strange language and Cynder, Sparx, and Mayst were suddenly in the strange forest.

None of them knew that as they spoke, Spyro was directly underground; captured by the most dangerous creature on the planet.

Chapter 11

Cynder, Sparx, and Mayst looked at each other.

"So now where?" asked Sparx.

"He could be any where in this forest." Mayst answered with a sigh.

"So what about that cat you said he was with?" asked Cynder.

"I had never seen her before. My guess was he had found her in the forest.

"Her?" asked Cynder, becoming slightly jealous.

"Spyro has a girlfriend!" Sparx taunted.

Cynder rolled her eyes.

"Come one, we've got to find Spyro." the black dragoness commanded.

Spyro could not help but shake with fear as he looked at the giant beast.

"I will make sure you die painfully, dragon!" High King roared.

Spyro looked back up at the opening -- the only way of getting away from the High King.

Just then, High King blasted a shard of darkness and hit Spyro's shoulder. Spyro winced and tried not to show the pain High King had just given him.

High King moved forward to attack again, but a blast of fire made him miss. Spyro looked up and saw Zerena, flying overhead and attack High King.

"C'mon!" Zerena called.

Spyro cautiously flew up and was releaved to discover his wings were working again. The two dragons flew up and left the High King.

"He won't be far behind us!" Spyro warned.

"I know." Zerena replied, "I saw a black dragoness and a yellow bug in the forest -- do you know them?"

"Yes!" Spyro beamed, "That's Cynder and Sparx!"

And the two dragons flew above the forest, Spyro sure he would be going home.

Chapter 12

Spyro and Zerena landed in front of Cynder. Cynder ran up and hugged Spyro.

"I was so worried." Cynder said.

"We don't have time to talk right now," Zerena said, "We should get going."

"Who are you?" asked Cynder bitterly.

"My name's Zerena," Zerena dipped her head, "Who are you?"

"Cynder," Cynder said tersely.

"Hello, hi, whatever," Sparx said, waving.

"We've got to go!" Mayst said, "The High King will find us!"

"High King? Who's he?" asked Sparx.

"The evil king of Darkness." Zerena replied.

"Great, that's exactly what we need after us -- an evil king of Darkness." Cynder said sarcastically.

Suddenly, the earth began shaking and a giant black dragon errupted from the ground.

The High King roared, "You will pay for escaping me, dragon!"
