They never grew up... [CLOSED]

Most of you may already know that Spyro and Cynder didn't really grow up in DotD. Here's an email reply I got from Chris Wilson last year, explaining about the changes of the last installment of the trilogy. I posted this confirmation on the other Spyro forum last year also, but didn't bother posting it here until now.

Why else do they still look smaller than the Guardians?

Regarding your question, when we began working with the new team at EL, we took the opportunity to explore different looks and "ages" for Spyro and Cynder. We also had to make some changes to allow for the new gameplay features, such as needing larger wings to work with the flight feature and to allow the characters to block with their wings. The team came up with a variety of concepts and we settled on what you see in DotD. We didn't want to change it too much, but it was a good opportunity to allow the characters to grow up a bit (just like many of the fans were growing up too). It was also a good time to make this change given that it was the 10 year anniversarry for the Franchise. Had we made the game with Krome, its difficult to say what would have happened, but I'm sure there would have still been some changes. Since this was the first time Spyro was on the next-generation consoles, we had to update the model to take advantage of the new technology on the PS3 and Xbox 360.

I don't know about you guys, but I've noticed that Spyro looks a bit like they chopped him up into equal pieces and glued him back together. Just look at the DotD cover.

lol so true o.o he looks so wierd in DoTD, your right about the cover ,there are lines on his back that make him look chopped ,even tho its supposed to be some sort of scales ... he looks like he has some sort of skin disease@_@
http://www.inside-360.de/wp-co...-the-dragon.jpg
Is it just me or does kinda look like he's been wraped in plastic or something =/
Anyway the whole design change EL made for DoTD is kinda dumb imo,
Maybe since it was supposed to be something UberEPIC they wanted to make him seem less cartoony and more realistic and grown up (even if he didn't grow)..blaah ,and thus creating another plothole...

I loved Spyro's desighn in DotD, but this is what i think of it: Yes, he does look like he was rapped in plastic because he wa so shiny(but its only in a few places eg: In the picKimbia28 posted.), i also think Spyro looks like he has big kiss ready lips(There so figgen huge!smilie), but i still think he looks really cute. In my opion it was his cutest form yet.(Aside for Krome's vesoin)

In DotD they look like they're wraped on plastic smilie
But, they were trapped ''just'' 3 years. I think they wouldn't grow up that much.

They wouldn't grow at all since they were stuck in some time crystal thingy ,
But the change itself is more becouse of the gameplay and they wanted to make them seem a bit older becouse of it's dark story, drama and stuff...

Actually, you usually grow in your sleep. Perhaps maybe they grew inside the crystal? It could've expanded as they grew.

First off, TEN was on the Wii, a next-gen console (real smooth, Chris). Second off, allow me to present the scoreboard:

I only stated fact, the Wii does not have next-generation graphical capablilities and therefore did not have the "new technology" that made the XBox 360 and PS3 good canidates for a model update.

Spyro and Cynder could have easily flown over obstacles in DotD, like the debris that separated them from Hunter in Warfang. But they didn't. Evidence that they haven't grown nor change in appearance, since they couldn't fly over such obstacles when they were little dragons.

i know. they couldn't fly over it. which points to my theory. that their wngs did not grow but only gained more muscle support.

yes, it's not the best theory, but.. XP

technically spyro nd cynder are in their teens: Spyro was born and then it went ahead at least 10 years because he is a few years old in the beginning of ANB. Then he is trapped for 3 years, do the math

Yes, but they were frozen in time for 3 years. So they should've looked the same as they were in TEN after they were broken free at the beginning of DotD. Making them teenagers without any explanation was an unwanted plothole.

He left the Spyro Team sometime after DotD was released in 2008, and this was his message before he left. So I don't know.

Nobody probably. The creators of the LoS trilogy are possibly looking over at popular Spyro forums for feedback of the recent Spyro game anyways. So we don't need to talk to them, until they decided to talk to us.

Wait, just thought of new theory. New for me, at least.
Okay, he was trapped in a mountain, right? and the beginning of the catacombs had lava. Metal, ice, and other objects expand in heat, but not too much. Spyro is now a different shape, but not much bigger. Of course, the teams making the games didn't have this theory, but it just goes to show you that it might be possible.
Yes.

You gotta believe!
