Well, the dragons see sheep as property, not really sentient beings - and they don't have Animal Rights in the Dragon Realms - so they don't really understand the possibility that what they're doing hurts the sheep.

Now, in regards to Spyro and Sparx... Spyro's a dragon raised to believe the same as other dragons - compared to dragons, other creatures are insignificant, but about butterflies...

See, when you start the game, Sparx is a normal (in Dragon Realms standards) dragonfly, and when you kill animals, their mortal souls are released as butterflies that Sparx eats to instantly heal himself because dragonflies also consume mortal souls for power. This is also the reason he follows Spyro around because in letting him consume mortal souls he and Sparx have created a blood pact. But the first time you lose him, he's resurrected as a zombie dragonfly using the mortal souls he's collected over the years and continues to consume them for more power, and since he and Spyro have a blood pact, some of that power is also given to Spyro which is why
he can fly at the end of the game.

Guess where I pulled that explanation from? Go on, guess!
Where the sun don't shine.

In conclusion, Spyro is a Necromancer!

Dragons eat virgins, sheeps and other animals like cows, pigs etc. Do you know the story of Wawel Dragon/Smok Wawelski/Dragon of Cracow? It's a Polish legend, if this dragon didn't eat any sheeps, he wouldn't be killed by shoemaker Dratewka. Dratewka filled sheep's fur with sulfur, oil and other explosions and gave it to dragon. Dragon ate this "sheep" and he was thirsty. He drank a lot of water from river, Wisla, and he blew up! Each dragon eats sheeps, they're delish.

Sheep are actually prey for Dragons, after humans took their natural prey, they started eating them, which....made the humans p-oed, and what eventually killed off the dragons. :/
Spyro may not eat them, but that is the reason. >.< I HATE US!! lol...

It makes me wonder if Toasty was the only sheep who got tired of the abuse he and his fellow herd had to adure with the Dragons. And finally tried to do something about that, by teaming up with Gnasty Gnorc.

Or he was possessed because necromancy was popular back then. smilie

He was probably revived from a dead sheep to turn Spyro's mighty powers of the undead against him.

I thought Toasty joined forces with Gnasty Gnorc to get back at the Dragons, since he is a sheep, and the dragons abuse the herd of sheep.

But my first nightmare was Buka from Moomins (it's her Polish name, in Swedish Marran and in Fin Morko, I hope you know this character). Back to topic, stop talking about Toasty, plz smilie

Except for the part where that isn't actually off-topic since Toasty is a sheep and this discussion is relevant to why Dragons are mean to them, even if indirect.

I'll stick with the necromancy theory since that's actually funny.

Actually, Toasty is one of my best-remebered childhood memories of StD. The others are the giant Dragon mouths that open, the Baloonist, the Burglars or robbers and that icey world with the wizards who raise pillars of grass up.

Theory:
Toasty made a Deal with Gnasty, that is he got rid of Spyro, then they'd be given freedom, and Toasty was, how shall we say, the Aplha Sheep?
Just my Theory

No, Rams are suppose to make Lambs. And Lambs are supposed to be a lamb. And lamb is supposed to be a kebab.
But, more serious, there were no Rams in StD. Only sheeps. But Toasty could be a Ram without horns, after winter hibernation, like deers.

Sheperds seemed to be the leaders then, since they were suppose to protect the sheep. And when the dragons turned to crystal, the Sheperds joined up with Toasty, not knowing he was a sheep, to take over the Artisans world.

The rams in StD served to protect the herd, which I'm pretty sure they do anyway, and the shepards were just jerks.

And funny.
