Definitely the new one.

Say what you will but the old version of Sparx had barely any role. Spyro almost never spoke to him, Sparx didn't say anything, and Sparx, plot-wise, didn't do anything either.

In short, Sparx was little more than a glorified health meter and could have been eliminated for all I care and it wouldn't have made a difference.

The new Sparx is actually quite funny and actually do something. Although he doesn't fight (except GBA TEN, where he will occasionally kill small foes for you), he actually act as a constant partner, supporting Spyro (and some times not), and hinting at stuff Spyro missed. They actually interract quite a fair bit and their antics are quite funny, the two getting each others in trouble periodically.

So, yeah, I prefer new Sparx.

Yeah! The old Sparx didn't play a big role, exept in Spyro Adventure/Attack of the rhynocs. But else, he plays a much bigger role as new Sparx.

Yeah, and i love the part in ANB when he says
'so big, monstorus, evil, sexy??? oops did i say that out loud??'
or in TEN when he said
'I'm ready to gegin the best day ever now that the evil-physco-she-dragon is gone'
LOL

Or when he says
'Even you guys make me want to face Cynder! Oops, did I say that out loud?

'Next time i say that i want to face cynder, just slap me in the face.'
'no problem.........'

I like new Sparx because he is more like a character than old Sparx. Not to mention, he is funny and cute.

I love the new Sparx! He's got a double personality! There's the cowardly part of him, and the newer, more courages part of him.

That wasn't Gaul, that was one of those medium sized pirate monkey with all other little pirate monkeys. Gaul is much bigger and uglier!
