Their was alot of them in the last two games wouldn't they be enough of them to challenge the dark master?

Without Gaul they're just mindless beats... And I'd doubt they'd even think of fighting Malefor, I mean Spyro can defeat loads of them and hes like, 5 times Malefors size

I'm not even sure what the Pirate "Apes" from TEN are supposed look like. Are they even Apes?

Well in Anb Ignitus stated that they were mercenaries to the dark master, and in DotD it's stated that when they became unecesary Malefor dumped them and created the army of grublins.
