I have witnessed certain people such as death horn and dark lejend being treated badly because of their grammar, spelling and punctuation. The ones that do this are Kyo Tanaka, Shrazer320, seros, and Observer. Would you mind sorting them out, dark52?

I was thinking that also. It's not like they're breaking any rules, or anything.


Edit: I meant Death horn and others. They have no reason to be Trolled.

Why? Because it's hard to understand them if they do not use grammar and spelling at all.

At least I see death horn is attempting to use better spelling and grammar (I read a story in fandom and noticed spelling and grammar improved)

I agree, I'd make it a rule to not troll users for poor writing if I was the admin.

I'd not be surprised that the forums would turned into something that we cannot understand if there was actually a rule like that.

Also, trolling is against the rules already, why have two of the same thing?

I support in new users that can't use grammar or spelling to at least try there best to make it understandable.

Yes, people shouldn't troll overs because they can't spell well or they don't use proper grammar but there are moments when it becomes impossible to understand what they are saying and if you ask them to use better grammar they'll just flip out and go crazy. I remember Death Horn was flaming members who asked her to improve her grammar because they couldn't understand her. They wernt being harsh or anything and yet she still flamed them...

Well, they troll because they are so dumb they can't decipher scrambled text easily? Come on, how hard is it to read lightly to moderately scrambled spelling and grammar? Are you some 60 year old University English Nazi Professor or something?

EDIT: The help files say use English, but not exactly perfect English. As long as it's decryptable it's ok (at least with me).

And, I don't mind some "chat" typing and all lower cases and maybe a TYPO here and there, but something like "it was???!!! o...k... illee if eney onesays difrent " just shows absolutely laziness, if not a low IQ. If you can't understand someone, they shouldn't be on any forum.

Also, everyone finds it annoying when somebody says/asks something very stupid, which I've seen death horn (the subject of this topic) do.

I agree with Kyo, its hard to understand them. And you should read the post correctly, not all are trolling. Some start out as "Try this..." or something along the lines of that, but some users push it to a flame war, and its not the original posters fault, its whoever didn't listed to advice. Some users are a troll, and expect to actually offend older members. Death horn has broken rules too. More than some who where banned for no reason.

And some users need to wake up. Robo said it was a good idea...if you know Dark, you know very well....

Where'd use of the report button come from? Just because members like you have some sort of hatred for me (which often turns likewise) doesn't mean I SPAM on the report button.

*blink* I don't think dark's ever had to punish someone for overusing that feature.

Robo Spyro reported some people who bully the users with bas spelling Shrazer320.

And that sentence you wrote there did need to be looked at a little more closely, but it was totally understandable.

I agree that it's hard to read but why does everyone have to be so mean about it? You can just say, 'Please write clearer because I find it hard to understand', you don't need to say 'You fail at english, spell properly or get off the net!'

Hello everyone. Here are my thoughts on the issue:

- Why do we care about spelling and grammar? The reason is because we need to communicate to understand each other. If the medium in which we communicate is not clear, whether it's talking or typing, it gets annoying for people to understand each other.

- Why do some people still care about spelling and grammar even though you can discern what the person's saying? It's because there is a general assumption that you can spell and write in a reasonable way. Because spelling and writing is so fundamental and basic, sloppy typing is assumed to be the product of lazyness, which no one wants.

- What's the reality? The darkspyro forums wasn't meant for people of a certain age; it's open to anyone. However, it mostly attracts younger people who are interested in Spyro. From that, you can expect typing quality to be less than at a premium. Almost all other forums would have tighter restrictions on posting quality, but seeing that this site gets the most traffic from younger ones who couldn't care less about posting quality (and only about purely being able to understand each other), it's not realistic to expect an end or even a slight decrease in bad typing.

- Can bad spelling be categorized as trolling? Those are two different things. I would have to say no. Poor grammar/spelling would be reason for banning in other forums, but if you did this here, there would technically be hundreds of bans. So again, it's not realistic to do this because the site activity will be reduced. The issue is hard to control in the first place, and the only decent way to control bad spelling would be detrimental to the site in terms of traffic.

- But that's not encouraging people to spell better! True, but you can't force people to learn typing etiquette at the pace you want. Not realistic.

- What about flaming people for bad grammar/spelling? I guess the best thing to do is to have a higher tolerance to that, and simply correct their errors if you're really bugged by it or if it hinders communication to the point of confusion (e.g. witch/which). It goes back to saying that you can't force people to learn. They do it themselves at their own pace. Heavy flaming is in a way no different than banning people in that it discourages people from coming to this site, and ultimately that's not what we want to do...or if it is, that's a selfish goal.

People like (insert names here) whine too much about people with spelling and grammar issues (except in the case of death horn, which I find super annoying)
People like (insert people who raged, here) whine too much about us whining about them.
People with the incomprehensible english issues that continue for extensive amounts of times annoy me.

We're not solving each others problems, we only seem to be completely ignorant towards each others actions.

I use Firefox. I helps A LOT.

It is true. I got treated like garbage when my writing was not that good. But it's just immature when users on this site bother others for they're typing. I never did bother any one for that. And sometimes you never know when people need to type like that because either they have a broken arm, one arm, they are immobile, etc...

I think part of the problem is that many users (myself included) associate good English mechanics with post quality. What I am saying is that an average older member of darkSpyro is more likely to ignore a post riddled with numerous spelling/grammatical errors. It's a simple mindset that leads to this: "this user is obviously too lazy to care about his/her mechanics, so he/she must also be too lazy to post a thoughtful comment." As such, we skip over and ignore their posts.

Now this in turn angers the younger member who is making these frequent mistakes. As a result, they start posting more and more because they want attention. Because their focus is on attracting attention, the younger members end up caring less about English mechanics. As said member makes more frequent/sloppier posts, the older members get peeved. Eventually, it drives many of us over the brink. We decide to give the younger member the attention they crave, but the only way we can find it within ourselves to do that is by ridiculing them for their frequent writing mistakes.

Just a hypothesis. Seems plausible IMHO. <.<;

Well... if the message is obscured by many spelling/grammar errors, it may be open to misinterpretation.

And my friend can't use firefox or install a grammer checker since his dad set restrictions on vista stopping him installing a load of crap.
