i know it was given 2 a different company but why did they do a reboot? wouldnt they have been given the older characters along with it or did they just want 2 start off fresh?

a reboot it means like they erase all previous data and history and start off fresh with their own ideas.

The funny thing is that Spyro became what it originally parodied, a generic dragon fantasy series. I think they did the reboot because they wanted to start a new fantasy game series with dragons, but they already had the rights to a well-known character so they just slapped the Spyro name on it so more people buy it.

I think they did it because the games were slowly failing so they rebooted the games to get spyro back on track.

Face it, if more of those Enter the Dragonfly and A Hero's Tail crap came out, Spyro will be dead.

Like Windows ME is better overwritten with the better XP, and XP is better overwritten with Windows 7, a full reboot and reset is needed to give a new life to Spyro.

The original Spyro was basically this:

A Sonic Spoof 3D platformer using dated tech and typical 90s pop-culture references and featured a big name (Stewart Copeland) to do the music with the incredibly at that point worthless Yamaha XG 98' soundcard (although Nobuo Uematsu had used that same soundcard for the making of Final Fantasy 7 or whatever some few years before) to result in a game with a long gamplay span, but incredibly tack story, lousy characters, and... SYNTHESIZERITUS. D:

Although Insomniac would throw the series away after YotD, Copeland still stuck around for Enter the Dragonfly, but obviously was sick of the purple dragon and moved on to better things.

Then along came Sierra, and they made the reboot, which was basically a deconstruction of the original Spyro games to create a fantasy that everyone, including hippies, old people, the nerd down the street, and kids could relate to thanks to not J.R.R. Tolkien, but good old German composer Richard Wagner. They would also hire some big names like Gary Oldman, David Spade, and big nerd Elijah Wood and some familar voices such as Billy West, Cree Summers, and Mark Hamhill (who some of you older gamers or those who do the research should know as the guy who was Luke Skywalker in Star Wars) to be voice actors, and nobody's Gabriel Mann and Rebecca Kehnbul to do the classical/film score esque music (which fun fact: 90% of music theory rules were established by Germans) for the game, which is what we've got at the moment.

With all this said, I have come to believe that LoS is mostly German stuffs...

A Hero's Tail was an awesome game so I don't know why they had to do the crappy reboot. >.>

But now they have lots off comments saying:

"Originals suck!"
"TLOS suck!"
"DOTD suck!"
"AHT and ETD suck! There not as good as TLOS!"

And alot more.

It's getting rather annoying now. Especially the third one.

And they risked alienating the fans on doing the reboot; they knew there would be TLoS flaming and they still kept to it in order to continue Spyro despite that.

Well, I say it was more reward than risk in terms of opinions for ANB and TEN. But they just killed it with DotD. =_="

DotD was nice. When the next comes, they would have polished it more.

A new fresh start with a different storyline.

I like it that they did a reboot. It makes a story feel complete. Not that you just have a random jumble of games starring a familiar character.

I think they rebooted it because there was no new enemy or evil person they could use from the old Spyro series. but thats just me, I got bored with Red and Ripto and the like always coming back.

I see what you mean about the flaws though... of course, when you really get down the gritty details of both games, neither make a good dragon game (if you know what I mean)...

I think Spyro is suffering from "game identity crises." As in: where the heck can his games go after the phail-fest that was DotD?

Who knows...

Of course, I haven't played DotD, so I can't say much at the moment...

well... I think they are trying to redefine Spyro at the moment... as I have said before.... sales are doubling almost everytime a new on is releced since aNB...

I actually think it's lacking due to lack of publicity.... most people don't even know what it is...

I think that Seirra reckoned that the old series was "Dead" and had run out of Ideas that would fit into the game. Or they're just too lazy to carry on Spyro

Nah, they looked at the series and said "it is broke, let's try to fix it..."

And your mileage will vary with that one on that issue. Personally, I think if they had a little more money and a little more time, they could have made something big.

Yup. Too bad Activision is probably unwilling to give them the time/money for a decent Spyro game. It'd take away from Call of Duty and Guitar Hero. <.<;
