I'm curious about this because I've had to report a bunch of someone's posts for insulting myself and just plain out breaking the rules, and I've marked those posts as "flaming", but when I'm mostly to one being insulted again and again, would it trolling or flaming?

And, for future references, what exactly is the difference (or at least how dark52 sees fit) ?

I have been wondering the same thing for a LONG time............But I think FLAMING is when you insult a certain person and TROLLING is when you insult everybody. I've just about killed the Report button cuz ppl kept on spamming in my topic about Micheal Jackson.

Trolling doesn't necessarily refer to insulting per se, but more of just being an annoyance to everyone, usually in a deliberate manner to be annoying. Flaming is verbally attacking someone or a group of people. Both are bad.

Well for example, flaming would be something like, "eff you, your opinion is messed up." An example of trolling would be to constantly post something totally unrelated to the topic in a deliberate way. If a thread for example talked about marriage, and you kept posting stupid stuff like "BANANAS!", that's trolling.

Spamming is loading a topic with tons of random crap so people leave the topic. Such as:

EDIT: Let me be more specific here; DARK CINDER's practically STALKING me and saying whatever stupid or rude or immature or *ect* and I'm sick of it. I keep marking the posts as flaming, but in just ten minutes I reported about five messages, so I'm thinking of just PMing dark about it (and some ways to keep crap like this from happening/escalating). Since I'm being targeted, I'm curious as to if it's flaming or trolling. Trolling sounds like it's something that's being done continuously like DC's doing, while flaming is "to everyone/something in general".

A troll is a person who posts messages and certain sarcastic comments about another user, hoping for an emotional response. Such as, annoying a person deliberatly to make them get very angry, just to mock them in the end.

A flamer, is a person who continuelly tries to start an argument with another person, to damage the Forum.

Yeah. You can distinguish a troll from a common flamer if he/she has a string of antagonistic posts directed at particular members. Trolls will also flame for the sake of provoking responses and arguments. Flamers are generally more of an accidental reason, or someone flames on occasion to project their hurt feelings onto another forum members. A troll is like an internet bully essentially, but putting you down lower, the troll thinks he/she is asserting superiority. Generally, you can ignore a flamer an they'll stop, but trolls have a lot more persistence, and will generally continue with provocative, antagonistic posts until the member said posts are directed at responds in a manner that pleases the troll (usually starting a fight, in this case).

Generally, flamers can be soothed with some warnings, or even a short suspension if necessary. But when it is clear that a member is trolling the forums, a suspension is generally not enough to get a message through their head. IP Bans are the solution to trolls. I get the feeling DC will be back and her trolling will be at a heightened level; she should probably be Ripto'd.

An Internet Troll sounds no better than the goat eating monster that lives under bridges. XD
