Everything to Know About the 1040-SR Form for Filing Seniors

Form 1040-SR is a large-print version of Form 1040 that is designed for taxpayers who fill out their tax return by hand rather than online.
A Standard Deduction table is printed right on the form for easy reference.
You need to be 65 or older to use Form 1040-SR.
You can use all IRS schedules (additional forms) with Form 1040-SR, including Schedules 1, 1-A, 2, and 3, to report information not directly reported on Form 1040-SR.

Now that everyone is scared off, I have this thread to myself. Anyone left around here is itching to post in a new thread, but I can find peace and solitude in here.

I'm guessing this applies to US tax policy, specifically? Would you say that it works like it's supposed to, or would you prefer to see it revised one way or another?

Hmmmm so this happens to be one of those touchy subjects, I take it? Who knew tax could be so personal!... Well, I guess that's not a big surprise, really.

Or do I come off as suspicious enough that perhaps I'm really an undercover IRS agent... that I intend to write up a report on your views on tax policy to be filed into a secret database, which would have you registered as... a potential tax evader?

I'm not authorized to reveal that information.

...I mean, no! No, of course not...

(Well, maybe they do look familiar; I'll tell you that much.)

Medicare enrollment in your 60s

There are several ways to enroll in Medicare, whether you plan to retire or keep working:
  • If you begin receiving Social Security retirement benefits between age 62 and up to 4 months before turning 65, you will be automatically enrolled in Medicare Part A and Part B when you turn 65.
  • If you apply for Social Security 3 months before you turn 65 or later, you can sign up for Medicare when you apply for Social Security.
  • The Initial Enrollment Period to sign up for Medicare begins 3 months before you turn 65 and ends 3 months after the month you turn 65 — a total of 7 months. You may have to pay a penalty if you miss your Initial Enrollment Period.
  • If you are not ready to receive Social Security benefits at 65 because you are still working, you can apply online for Medicare only. Or you may be able to wait until you retire to sign up during a special enrollment period.

i personally interpreted him as somewhere around middle aged, so this might be something he has to be ready for in 20 or so years. hopefully he can check this topic for reference by then...

Certainly that is a worry, it must be hard being old. Imagine if the IRS went after Nestor, I don't think he even has an SSN!.
