Don't do stuff like "I work out so I have a Lucario". Be realistic. I live in a city in Texas and work near a lake so I believe I would have A ducklett. I also see a lot of squirrels so Pachirisu is another member. I also live near a cemetery so Yamask is another contender for a team member.

pets are hard, give me low maintenance things that absorb nutrients for free like a Chikorita or something

Rip Pokecharms.
Porygon- I like collecting tech stuff and would drop 1000 pokedollars on a cool porygon.
Dratini- Most snake Pokemon are cobra based and we don't have those here, but we have a snake that can come in blue and you can buy from breeders which fits Dratini pefectly.
Galvantula- It would come into my house one day and I would just let it stay.
Wingull- Coastal city so there's seagulls EVERYWHERE and I would catch one because I like them.
Meowth- I own a cat.

Pokemon is supposed to be an environmentalist utopia in the games iirc. Irl I think there'd be more electric types?, maybe Magnemite would work? It has no mouth so I assume you would just need to charge it. Same with Voltorb. Magnemite are passive so you could probably send one over Pokemon eBay too which is also why I added Porygon, lore wise you can literally download them off the internet so they're insanely accessible. Pineco also looks incredibly low maintenance and pine trees are found everywhere.

I assume downloading a Porygon has the risk of it getting corrupted and becoming a Porygon z. Unfortunately most people will not have starters cause they need to be hand picked by a professor and those usually live in small towns

Only Porygon-2 has that risk, regular Porygon is safe
Yeah, starters would be pretty rare, people would catch bugs and com mons just like you see on first routes
