What media do you think is essential to know

I have a friend who has had very little exposure to media and I want to introduce him to some interesting stuff. I’m thinking something that’s a little more niche than like Cartoon Network shows. Any ideas? I’ve recommended some artsy movies and music but I think there should be more variety
