What do you think about that situation?

You're friends with someone, they have a romantic partner, but they break up. After the breakup, you stay friends with both people, or perhaps only become friends with one of the people after the breakup.

Do you think that's okay or just plain wrong? Why or why not? Show your work.

This question is sort of hard because it depends on the situation.

If the ex did something so awful and gross, then yeah, it's absolutely wrong.

If your friend and the ex are just no longer on talking terms, then that's a gray area and it's not a clear cut answer. This answer ALSO depends on the situation.

If your friend and the ex are still on talking terms/still friends, then yeah that's totally okay

if friend and ex are friends still, then that's probably okay.*

otherwise...

i want to say "it depends" because that sounds like the right answer, but putting myself in the friend's shoes, you better know i'm going to make it not okay.

* as long as you're not getting too friendly with them, especially if there's still some lingering emotions between your friend and their ex (there always is).

if you KNOW(idk ask i guess) 100% both parties' feelings are anything short of "we still like each other but we are better as FRIENDS <3" fuggedaboutit. receipe for drama.

if you are feeling mixed about being friends with a friend's ex its probably not good.

You became friends with "Friend" while they and "Ex" were dating and remained friends with "Friend" after the breakup. You didn't really know "Ex" until after the breakup, when you and "Ex" become friends. You honestly have no idea how the breakup really went, you just know that "Friend" and "Ex" don't talk anymore, nor talk about each other anymore.
