After analysing countless Internet arguments, I have figured out the greatest thread idea that is guaranteed to start an argument and bring back the forum from near death.

Do you think it's wrong to consume content that is very problematic or from problematic creators? Do you look down on people who watch certain media or ship certain things? Do you think underage/incst ships are wrong? Do you think certain things should be illegal to portray?

Personally I don't care what anyone ships but I also don't use any of these labels or engage in discourse whatsoever.

i think all of these come down to "do these make me feel uncomfortable? and should it be gone because it does?"

for consuming content that is problematic it depends on who you are as a person. like are you able to separate fiction from reality? if you watched a movie like the house that jack built where its super messed up and kinda nsfl are you able to recognize that the goal of the movie is being consumed? i personally think that you shouldn't really judge someone for like problematic content like politics and conspiracies because chances are you do the same but for the opposite views you're criticizing. but what if its real? that's when it gets kinda iffy with me. like why do you find someone dying entertaining? does the morbid curiosity of seeing someone die make you bad? probably not. but like you shouldn't be watching those videos.

I've been having this discussion a lot about consuming content from problematic creators and really it all comes down to separating the artist from the art. like if you don't want to support a guy because they said bad stuff. sure that's fine. who am I to tell you what to do. my problem is when people act like you are a problem for watching a video because what if i liked the video? if i didn't want to support every racist/sexist/pedo/etc in media then i wouldn't be watching anything at all. hollywood has a bunch of pedos, the game industry is one of the worst industries to work in, a lot of musicians abuse their power for sex, etc.

i look down on people watching obvious and genuinely agreeably awful videos such as child porn. or like those tiktoks where its a child doing something with thousands of saves and shares from creeps.

ships I'm gonna be honest. like why do you care if someone ships certain characters? i feel like modern day internet culture has this thing where people are just constantly trying to out other people as pedos. probably because the people doing this are younger. but like who cares if spyroEpicFanCynderDragon ships joe joestar with johnathan joestar. just laugh and ignore it. like why waste effort defending and knighting drawings?

real talk i just stay in my lane honestly. if it makes me uncomfortable ill just ask u to leave me alone and not talk to u.

but yeah ill call it out if it’s actually harmful or something. i don’t really give a **** what ppl do or believe as long as it doesn’t harm others

Seriously the best way to sum up the antis vs pros is that Sarah Z made a twitter post about it and people on both sides thought they were for/against them simultaneously and reacted super aggressively off of that conclusion. Best way to go about it is case by case basis, I have friends that just can't interact with certain ships without getting disturbed even if others consider it okay and no big deal, so I just avoid posting about that content when they're around and respect their boundaries. In turn they respect mine and we don't share accounts that have gross stuff after the first meme or so

My two cents are that you have a right to say who you don't want to interact with, as you can't really control or change fandom dynamics, but you can control yourself and the people you want/don't interact with.

I lean on the anti perspective because there are really gross ships out there that are abusive or just straight up pedophilia, and in those cases, I've seen the people who ship them consider themselves as proshipers; however, the antis aren't perfect either, because they can be too strict about what's considered an okay ship or not and it can get really out of hand.

I think it should be legal to hunt pedophiles for sport if that is what you are asking.

1. That's exactly why media literacy is so important. It feels like media literacy has gotten much worse with the internet and there being so much fake content.

2. Yeah this has been a larger focus due to JK Rowling I assume, content is made by very flawed people. It's hard to get away from that.

3. There's so much child exploitation content on social media in general, it does feel harmful to focus so much on fictional characters instead.

The Sarah Z video is exactly where I got the inspiration for this thread lol. Curating content in fandoms is definitely the best way to handle things. Tagging systems on sites like AO3 are a godsend.

I'm basically with Vespi here. I'm a lane stayer until something actually harmful or abhorrent is at my door.

i think certain ships are really bad anything that is like harmful and bad like fairly already universally illegal but at the same time i like a lot of ships that make other people pretty mad because their own maturity level is pretty low and the ships are pretty controversial like say ones with pretty lengthy age gaps and i mean this even between adult characters people just dont... know how to deal with that that said i have no idea how to answer the question posed because this is the first time i ever heard the term proship so i dont really know what its supposed to mean i think
